The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the internship and felt like a valued member of the team from the beginning. From the first day of the internship until the last, I was given real responsibility to contribute to client work and I could see that the work I did helped the team achieve their targets.
The team I worked with was extremely inviting when I joined and really made an effort to ensure that I integrated well with the team. I felt like I was part of team from the outset and was treated like anyone else. The team were very supportive whenever I had questions and always made sure that I was happy with the work I was doing.
On the first day my people manager arranged a meeting with me. In the meeting he asked what I wanted to get out of the internship, the type of work that I thought would benefit my studies and was there anything that would interest me to do while with the company. After this, he set out a plan for my time there and ensured that everything was covered. I met him on a weekly basis to discuss my progress and if I wanted to do anything else during the internship.
I was always busy either learning from other members of the team or carrying out work on client projects. My pepole manager arranged for me to shadow different members of the team from across the county throughout my time there which enabled me to gain a great understanding of the work that the wider team carried out.
I was surprised at the level of responsibility that was given to me. At the beginning I was working on projects under guidance from members of the team, however once I had learnt the basics I was given the responsibilty to work on projects independentally and was able to ask questions if there was something that I couldn't do.
Having been asked at the start if there was any work in particular I wanted to do that would benefit my studies, I was able to tailor the work I did to develop skills that would be useful in my final year of university. The opportunity I was given to shadow the wider team has given me a great awareness and understanding of all the work the company does and the fantastic opportunities that PwC employees have.
The Company
It was better than I could have imagined. The Newcastle office was very modern, light and spacious. This helped contribute to the calm and relaxed atmosphere among all the employees that worked there. There was no one that you couldn't approach for help or to ask a quesion, as everyone was friendly, welcoming and understanding.
At the beginning of the intake everyone was given training, general inductions and local inductions. This ensured that we had a great basic knowledge of the company and the work that we would be carrying out while we were there. The beginning was amazingly well prepared, which made it easy for everyone to integrate into the company.
All the interns were brought to London for 3 days of inductions and training at the start of the intake. Whilst there we were all issued with company laptops. I was given the opportunity to travel to various offices around the country to visit the wider team and gain an insight into all the different aspects of work that the team carried out.

The prospect of future employment with PwC is very good. The internship isn't really seen as an extended interview, it is viewed as an opportunity for you to gain an insight into the company and how they work. The company invest heavily in their graduates to ensure that they receive the correct training to develop them both personally and professionally.
The Culture
The company has a very good social scene. Within work there are social clubs for the work teams that have regular events funded by PwC and there is a great variety of sports teams that anyone can join. Each year group that you join in is also very close which helps if you are moving to a new area to join the company.
I lived in Newcastle for the duration of my internship. The cost of living is relatively cheap and the cost of socialising is very cheap. The area also has a brilliant range of restaurants, bars and things to do to ensure that you never get bored. The team were always able to point out new and interesting things to do on the weekends.
The nightlife in Newcastle is among the best in the UK. There is something for everyone. There is a range of nightclubs that you can choose from depending on your preferences and there is an exceptional range of restaurants and bars if you prefer somethings quieter. One thing is for sure, you will never go wanting for nightlife in the city.
The opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work were great. The company have football and netball teams among others that allow the employees to get together outside of work. They also arrange an array of trips for the teams to different points of interest that are funded by the company.
