    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall it was really good and a very worthwhile experience. The exposure is such that it really enhances a CV and gives a far greater depth of understanding of how a professional services company functions on a day to day basis. The information of how you progress on the graduate scheme is invaluable and the differing perspectives from the staff members that you come across gives a very rounded and balanced overview of what working at PwC is really like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The tasks that I was given were other people's work so it lessened the burden on them so they were very grateful! They were all very friendly and very able to measure what an appropriate task was for me - this meant towards the end of the programme I was given progressively more involved tasks. My feedback stated that they were glad to have had me and I was treated as one of the team members.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was so much support and guidance available which was really good but the key aspect was the fact that they were not over-bearing in any respect and I was essentially allowed to have a go myself and get on with things. However I always knew that I had a support network to fall back on if I had had any issues or queries. Each intern had a respective buddy and people manager who had the designated functions of providing different types of support.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a good balance in the sense that I got everything finished so did not have to worry about the speed of my work or deadlines which was reassuring. I easily had enough to do to stay busy each day but if there was a slight time gap there were ways to obtain work and we had training modules and other tasks to complete anyway so there was plenty to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed to get on with my own tasks to do for the week and take accountability for certain EGAs (evidence gathering activities) so that was a positive. I was not left by myself at any time so it was a good balance - I think any more responsibility than I had would have been a negative. However the amount I had allowed me to be proactive and lead myself through various stages - where and when it was suitable for me to do so.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The general business acumen and knowledge of how to comport yourself in a business environment is invaluable and, although many things are obvious, it does no harm at all to see these played out. The insight into a specific service line is also good as they are so different and no one ever quite knows what each one will be like before experiencing it first hand - working out if what service line is best aligned to your interests is key too.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was conducive to work but other than that at lunch etc it was a very sociable office and there were social events nearly every week to go to if you wanted to. Everyone was very nice and approachable and professional and that helped me settle in. I did not feel the atmosphere was intimidating at any point and there were plenty of break areas to go to to relax.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very good and there were no issues from application to the last week. It was very different in comparison to other processes that have been part of and holds up very favourably against them. It seems that this structure continues through to graduate training also. The recruitment staff are very good and supportive throughout the process and took a real interest in our progress.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a people manager and buddy assigned throughout the period and had a breakfast with a partner event which is a considerable investment. There was also a 3 day residential trip that was paid for by pwc with pwc staff there to take us through introductory sessions. This seems to be a trend that continues throughout while working at PwC. I would say the training investment to begin with was sufficient for the 6 weeks but it was more on the job training throughout the period.

  • Flexi Time

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Most people qualify as a chartered accountant and the PwC training (and fact you were recruited by them) is pretty much a passport to do whatever you want. There are options to move service line and office all over the world and it is encouraged if you want to. There is a clear progression in sight also. Even if you wanted to leave, having worked for PwC opens so many doors for your career.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Yes there were social events nearly every week organised with the firm and we also did our own thing after work socials sometimes too. These included going to tepinyaki restaurant, blackjack introduction and going to the horse racing. There were also more local events such as drinks in the office on the first and last Friday of the internship. Everyone got on very well and it made the experience more enjoyable.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Glasgow is pretty cheap in comparison with the regions and far cheaper than London. Even allowing for salary levels the cost of living probably makes you better off in terms of a net effect here. There are more expensive areas and places to go if wanted and vice-versa while the majority is a happy medium. Socialising can be quite cheap once you know where to go.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was very good. Glasgow has lots of options to do a variety of different things and a lot of different scenes within a compact area. There are plenty of different restaurants and bars and clubs in the city. The PwC office is very central for transport home and for the nightlife that exists. There are many things to do out with Glasgow that are just a short drive.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were 3 separate social groups that do things periodically and has a good variety. There are various xmas parties across year groups and an office one. People do seem to be very sociable - there are also some sports clubs as well. There is also a considerable amount of volunteer work that takes place that people really seem to get on board with and make the most of.
