    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 week internship with PwC. Working in assurance I got to experience a diverse range of clients and carried out lots of interesting tasks for each of these. Doing an internship with a company like PwC is a great way to make lasting contacts in the industry and will also introduce you to like minded contemporaries at the same time.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being an intern I feel you are always treated apprehensively, initially at least, by your senior colleagues as they are unsure what level of work you are going to produce. However one you get past this boundary my colleagues were more than happy to set me varied tasks of increasing difficulty. Over the course of the internship I was required to obtain feedback from colleagues on how they believed I had contributed and I was pleased to see that my colleagues appreciated my support.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Within the first week of the internship you are assigned a 'People manager' who is your go to guy for any queries or questions that you may have over your time with the company. In my experience, my people manager was a huge help. He was able to direct my quereies to the right people and answer any questions I had as quickly as possible. When working at a client site, the 'in charge' colleague was always a great help. They made sure I was ok with the work that I had been set and were always able to help guide me through any problems I may have had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied on a day to day basis, depending on the client and depending on how much work had already been done! While I constantly looked for work to be given, there is the slight chance that you may become bored from time to time, however it is up to you to be proactive to keep yourself busy! There will always be work to do you just have to ask the right people and not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was really surprised with how much responsibility I was given during the internship, I had rather assumed that the majority of my time spent with PwC would be spent shadowing colleagues or doing mundane tasks. How wrong I was. After completing your inital induction training expect to be thrown in at the deep end, however you won't be left to down. My superiors at PwC tried to give me a varied set of jobs that would give me a broad insight into working in assurance. It is really up to you how much you want to get out of the internship, you will be expected to liase with client employees on your own and you should remember that the work you do will in most cases play a key role in the audit as a whole, but if that daunts you then there will always be a colleague available to help coach you through something.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I am currently studying accounting and finance at university, I expect the skills I have learnt and training I have received over the last 6 weeks will prove invaluable. This internship has reaffirmed my belief that I would like to enter a career in financial services after graduating and it has provided me with a solid base of knowledge for what to expect for the coming years.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the Cambridge office itself the atmosphere was fairly relaxed and everyone was really friendly. If you are working in assurance then you will spend the majority of your time working at client sites and so the atmosphere really does depend on who you are working with. In general, as the majority of people working on your team are likely to be under 30 the atmosphere is normally a pretty fun one with it never becoming too serious.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The PwC internship is organised exceptionally well. From the first week at the residential induction event it dawned on me how well planned the whole programme was with little touches, such as free drinks tokens, really showing the effort that the company goes to to help new starters settle in

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week of your internship will be training and development and you will come to realise over the 6 weeks just how helpful this is. The tutors assigned to you in your first week do a great job of making the training enjoyable and its hard to believe that you'll actually be paid for such a casual few days.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I hope to receive a job offer at the end of my internship and if I do I will accept it without hesistation. PwC is a great comapny that truly listens to the needs of its employees and tries to inspire innovation. They are one of the few companies that could get you a job anywhere in the world and I think this a massive plus point.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • While there were only 4 interns joining the Cambridge office (1 in tax and 3 in assurance) we all got along really well and were more than happy to meet up after work for a drink or some food. For the rest of the colleagues in the office, they're all great and with the majority of employees in audit being so young it meant that the social scene was fairly good.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during the internship which is fortunate because I believe Cambridge is an excpetionally expensive place to live and work in.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Cambridge is fairly average, and very expensive.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not while I was there.
