The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at PwC, it was a very challenging yet rewarding experience that placed you right at the forefront of the company鈥檚 operations. From the first day you were placed in teams with experienced PwC employees and placed on real life audit engagements with some of the company鈥檚 top clients. This made me feel far more valued and contributed to a very enjoyable six week experience.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues throughout my internship; I was treated like a proper member of the PwC team rather than just a part time intern. This greatly increased my motivation to try my best when working on engagements because I felt the work I was doing was very important and my team members valued my contribution.
Guidance and support were always readily available throughout my six weeks at PwC. Whist a lot of the time I was left to work through various tasks on my own and unsupervised I was always encouraged to not be shy and ask for help whenever I needed it. My supervisors were always very patient and were happy to talk me through the work in detail.
My workload varied throughout my time at PwC. For the majority of my internship I always had work that required to be completed but at no point did I feel weighed down or under immense stress because of the amount of work. There were a couple of days that were spent waiting around for work to be given to me but there were always other tasks that I could work through during this time.
As an intern I was given far more personal responsibility than I imagined I would before I started. From the first day in the office it was my responsibility to arrange to meet with the teams I would be working with and also to collect feedback from all engagements that I worked on during my six weeks. Whilst support and guidance was always available, you were expected to take a lot of the responsibility on yourself.
I feel that I have developed vital audit skills during my time at PwC that I think will be a great asset during the final year of study for my accountancy degree. I also feel that the experience I have gained will greatly improve my job prospects in the future and will open up a great number of new avenues to go down in my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and relaxed; the other PwC employees made the interns feel very welcome and valued and were always willing to offer assistance when required. At no point did working in the office feel intimidating or uncomfortable and it made for a far more enjoyable experience.
The internship was a little less structured than I had imagined; interns did appear to be placed on jobs at random and sometimes teams were not expecting an inexperienced intern to show up. Despite this teams were always very welcoming and tried their best to accommodate you and provide appropriate work.
The company provided numerous online training courses for us to complete that introduced us to some important security concepts as well as the ethos and work ethic of the firm. There was also a week long introduction at the start of the internship to introduce us to important computer systems as well as t acclimatise with our local office.

Upon the completion of a six week internship the chances of receiving a graduate job offer are very high. As long as you do your very best and show plenty of enthusiasm for the work and the firm then you should be highly confident of receiving a future graduate job offer.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene within the PwC internship. My fellow interns were all very friendly and we regularly socialised outside of office hours. The company itself also laid on various social outings for both the interns and regular staff throughout the placement as well as putting on office drinks at the end of every month.
The cost of living in Edinburgh is slightly higher than most places but there are still plenty of reasonably priced places that you can visit for food or bars to have a drink in after work. Having lived at home for the duration of the internship I cannot comment on the price of accommodation.
Edinburgh is a very vibrant city with plenty of options when it comes to nightlife and socialising with my fellow interns and colleagues after work. You never have to visit the same place twice as there are always plenty of bars, pubs and clubs available to visit.
Aside from occasional social events PwC didn鈥檛 organise a great deal of events to get involved in but the other interns as well as the regular PwC employees were always interested in meeting up to socialise after work throughout my time at the company. In terms of sporting events I don鈥檛 think there as a great deal of opportunity to get involved.
