The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at PwC. I have particularly enjoyed gaining a broad range of experiences from having worked with a significant array of clients from multiple industries. I was given responsibility to carry out various testing from the very start and was always encouraged to challenge myself further. This in turn made the placement year enjoyable and rewarding.
Throughout my placement year I have always felt valued by colleagues. I found myself being integrated in my division almost immediately with the help of numerous social groups and events. Upon joining PwC, we were all given a buddy from one grade above; measures such as this encouraged networking with seniors as well as peers from our intake.
Every senior I have worked with on all teams has been extremely supportive and helpful. Upon joining PwC, all my initial concerns were eliminated when I realised that I was not expected to know anything on areas of testing prior to joining the engagement teams. Once I joined the various teams, a senior was always at hand to answer any queries raised. The seniors and managers have also been highly supportive in the course of sitting the ACA exams. All help is at hand.
On a daily basis I found myself busy, which I really enjoyed. In hindsight, I feel this is the reason why I have learnt so much in one year. During the interim audit, the working hours were standard from 09:30 to 18:00. During the busy season, I was expected to work longer hours but I never found myself being overwhelmed by being too busy.
One of the main reasons why I have enjoyed my placement so much is because of the responsibility I was given from the start. Although being the most junior, I was always treated as an important member of the team. The longer I was booked on a client, the more responsibility I had with regards to testing and client interaction.
The skills I have gained over the placement year will greatly assist me in my final year at university and beyond. An example of such a skill I have developed is that of effective time management, by studying for the ACA exams whilst working on client engagements. This is a skill which will undoubtedly help me in all my future studies.
The Company
The general atmosphere was always fun in the office. It was always busy and there were often multiple social events for the various social groups on Friday evenings. This ensured that the office was never dull and was a platform to network with seniors from the firm.
The work placement was organised perfectly. Even before my first day, I had already received emails regarding what to expect on our first on-boarding week and detailed information about my selected business unit. Throughout the year, there were numerous events specifically for all the Business Placement 西瓜视频s within the London region. These events were conducted by previous placement 西瓜视频s.
The company invested significantly in terms of my development and personal training. My development was constantly monitored by my allocated People Manager and throughout the year we covered many objectives. Being a placement 西瓜视频, I still had the opportunity to sit the ACA exams.

The future employment prospects within PwC are highly appealing as I wish to complete my ACA and then progress with my career. PwC is incredibly supportive of graduates who are working towards the ACA qualification, allowing adequate study time alongside experience in the work place.
The Culture
In short: yes! This becomes immediately apparent in the first week of joining the firm. During this week, there are many social events with your intake, in addition to more senior members in the firm. This is a great way to get to know everybody. When beginning at the London office we were paired up with 'buddies' as a team member to socialise with regarding any work or non-work related situations. At the end of our first week we were taken on a 'social' by our buddies to allow communication outside of the work place. Additionally we have had lunches with our People Managers, as well as with Directors/Partners.
Living in London, the cost of living and socialising was more expensive compared to other regions. However, the salary we received is slightly more in the London region to accommodate for this. Therefore, on the whole it was manageable living in London.
Being in London, it is without any second thought that the city remains busy even at night. There is always something to do in the city at night, and not just nightclubs. There are endless bars, restaurants, gigs and concerts. In short, one can never get bored!
There were endless opportunities to get involved in outside of work. There were social events nearly every other week which were organised by the various social groups, ranging from sport tournaments to the Charity Away days.
