The Role
I enjoyed it a lot. It gave me the opportunity to meet very talented people, to work with them on challenging projects and learn from them. We had training sessions every Fridays to learn more about new technologies and how PwC delivers values to clients. Finally, I also enjoyed the work atmosphere and the events organized by PwC to allow us to know other employees.
I was given the work of an Associate, and my work was valuable to the client. I could see that my work allow the team to go faster on the project and deliver a better outcome to the client. They were very grateful for what we did as interns, and always took time to explain us the next steps of the project and their objectives.
I was free to ask questions when I didn't understand a question, there was always someone to take time to explain me. However, it was sometimes difficult to receive feedback from the manager who was very busy and often away from office. While at PwC if you have any query or issue you can ask your People Manager who is assigned at the beginning of your internship. They are very reactive to email and are here to help you enjoying the internship.
I wasn't very busy. Work starts at 9 am and I was often out at 5:30pm/6pm. August is a very quiet month, it gets busier the rest of the year. However, some interns were doing overtime (until 8:30pm) because they were on client's site. Also, I sometimes work from home on the challenge organized for the interns.
As mentioned above, I had to do a work usually given to associates, so I had the same responsibility as an associate. The work had a direct impact for the client who had high expectations. Also, after a few days my work wasn't reviewed by more senior employees and I had to be sure that it was clean of any mistake.
I developed mainly organisational skills. I improved my efficiency at work, my communication skills and my ability to work in a team. I also developed an interest for new technologies during the trainings on Fridays, and how it is impacting the business environment. However, I didn't have the opportunity to develop my analytical and problem-solving skills.
The Company
The atmosphere at the office was really great. I was working in an open space with other employees so I could easily communicate and ask questions with other colleagues. There was also some informal events organised by PwC where you can meet other employees. 6 other interns were working in technology Consulting and we became good friends thanks to this internship.
It was very well organised. Prior to my starting date I received emails about the first days of induction. My flight and a taxi to the place of the event were booked, so was my hotel room. Once in Belfast there was training sessions organised every Friday, where employees from different line of services explained to us their work and current project
The firm invest a lot in the training of its interns. People take time to review your objectives and provide feedback. PwC also organizes training events in London (one at the beginning and on at the end of the internship) with the other interns. Finally, there were many training sessions and presentations on Fridays given by professionals.
PwC is a great firm to work for. You'll always grow and learn from other people. It also allows you to be exposed to many industries, to take on new challenges and to solve complex issues. The atmosphere is also great, and you will develop strong relationships with other employees.
The Culture
The other interns were really friendly. We were 7 interns in Belfast, but only 2 of us were living here. Therefore we went out during the weekends (museums, restaurants...) and had fun together. It was also very valuable to work on projects with other interns that had different backgrounds.
Belfast is a very cheap city. I spent 拢500 for 6 weeks of accommodation. Food is inexpensive and there are many stores in the city center and the suburbs. I didn鈥檛 need to use public transports since I was living at a 20-minute walk from the office. Trains and buses are inexpensive: 拢1,50 per trip. Bars and restaurants are in the average of UK prices (拢10-拢15 for a decent meal)
Nightlife in Belfast is great. Queen's University 西瓜视频s came back mid-August and pubs get busier at this time. There are many places to go on Fridays and Saturdays, either in the city center or closer to the University. There are Uber and Cab services available 24/7, and they are very cheap since Belfast is a small city.
PwC is supporting many charities and encourages its employees to give time for a local non-profit organization. While being an intern you won't have time to be involved in a charity but you can as a graduate. The weekend I left a bicycle race was organised to raise funds for a local charity.
