    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This placement was great fun and immensely satisfying! I came into the placement looking to get a taste of consulting in the real world and wasn't disappointed. I was lucky enought to be placed on a project, where I was able to help. Despite not having the opportunity to travel I felt really involved from the office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Towards the beginning on my placement, I felt like I was not so valued by my colleagues as I was given tasks to complete that did not require an opinion. In hindsight this was to be expected as they did not know me. However after a couple of weeks I had gained enough of an understanding of the work to be able to provide insight that was appreciated by my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was very lucky, my manger was incredibly helpful in guiding me through the work I was doing. He was always willing to stop and talk to me and answer any questions I might have, whether they were to do with the work I was doing or more general life at PwC. On top of this at PwC you have a people manager who is there to help you in your career, providing advice on how you are performing during you work and helping you think about your career.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This was very dependent. On some days I was given one task for the day and left to it, even if the task didn't take too long. Thankfully, there were other activities I could complete as a part of the placement, such as training. At the other end of the scale, when there are deadlines approaching you can expect to work longer hours, although only one evening was I working beyond 6pm.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This is a very similar situation to how much I felt valued by colleagues. Towards th beginning of my internship I was not given much responsibility, however I took it upon myself to prove myself. By helping other colleagues complete their work I was able to prove my abilty to my manager and after that moment he gave me much more responsibility. So much so that by the end of my internship I was helping a senior manager directly whilst my manager was on holiday.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed on this internship are more of a soft skills nature. I have learnt a lot about what clients look for and how to go about presenting data to them. Skills such as these are very valuable in life, if not specifically to my engineering degree. I have also developed more technical skills, learning a lot about microsoft excel and robotic automation processes.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the Belfast Office was great! It is a very casual atmosphere , with no people wearing more than a shirt. To top this everybody was very happy to help answer your questions if you were unsure about the way things operated. As an intern I was warned that I would be expected to work long hours, but this was not the case as my manager actively encouraged me to go home and enjoy my evenings.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The beginning of the internship was organised excellently with a 3 day training program for all interns in England, before then travelling to the Belfast office for more specific training. The middle 4 weeks were a mixture of project work and training that seemed to run very well. However the end of the placement did not seem so organised, with managers being unsure about the process of receiving a graduate job or applying to change office.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested hugely in us. Even though my placement was placed in Belfast we had a three day training event in Windsor, staying in a 4* hotel with free food and facilities. This wasn't all, as a part of the internship we were given a brand new company laptop to use during the time here.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Belfast is generally a very cheap area to live, with lower housing prices and living costs than much of the UK. However if you do come here ensure that you carry out research into your accomodation as some people are paying very different prices for accomodation despite leaving in similar houses!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
