    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and felt fully integrated into PwC my entire time. I was never made to feel like "just an intern" and given menial tasks to do, but was actively encouraged to get involved with the rest of my team. I was lucky enough to experience working on several different jobs, from small start up charities to large FTSE 100 companies, which widened my experience and enabled me to gain understand the variety of work PwC performs. Additionally, I found that I had plenty of work to get on with and rarely found myself in a situation where I had nothing to do for large periods of time.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that every single person I worked alongside had time for me and made me feel valued. No matter how busy someone was, everyone was very quick and very patient at answering any questions I may have. I never felt uncomfortable making queries for this reason and it allowed me to get more out of my internship. I was always welcome with my team for after work drinks and I met some great people in the firm.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As mentioned previously, supervisors and managers can get very busy vrey quickly. This occasionally meant I was unable to get help instantly if I needed it and sometimes I would be unable to carry on with jobs for a period of time as there was no one to ask for help However, once they were free I found that everyone I asked were more than willing to explain things to me and were very good coaches.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was lucky enough to find that I was busy every single day. As I was placed on several different jobs, I found that I was based at client sites dotted around London. This often meant that the team had a certain amount of work to do within a short space of time and would mean that there was always something for me to do. In my six weeks of placement, I found that I only really had one or two days of sitting in the office with little work to do. I personally really enjoyed being busy and getting on with the work provided by my team, but it did mean that I didn't get as involved with the extra internship things, such as the Dragons Den task where interns were asked to share ideas on a digital platform.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was treated as though I was a recent graduate joiner on every job I was given, which resulted in me given exactly the same responsbilities as if I was a full time employee. These included preparing testing, matching invoices, and was required to interact directly with clients if I needed files etc. I would say I was given a lot more responsibility than I expected (never once was I made to make tea or do the photocopying!) but ultimately I wasn't qualified to do a lot of the larger, more interesting jobs, so it meant that a lot of the work can get repetitive. Although, I feel that this would be the same in any firm and is not down to PwC itself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • No matter whether I gain an offer or not, I have learnt a lot through this internship. I gained essential skills in interacting with clients and being required to work with a range of different people which I will use in whatever career I go into. I learnt that I am much more confident in these than I give myself credit for as well!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I spent very limited time in the PwC office itself as I was placed at several different client sites in and around London instead. A lot of the time, this involved being placed in a meeting room of the company itself and working in close proximity with the rest of your team. I found this great as it was very social and everyone got to go to lunch together, etc and it always meant there was usually someone around (a junior associate if not a manager) to ask for help and guidance when I needed it. It meant I got to build good relationships with the rest of my team, however it did mean I spent a lot less time with other interns and felt like I missed out on doing more social things with them.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was wonderfully organised. From the three day introductory residential at the beginning, to being resourced on different jobs, I never found myself not knowing what I was doing at any one point. My only criticism is that resourcing were often quite slow to get back to you so often I found myself being told I was joining a team the day before, which caused a few clashes in terms of scheduling meetings.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt very invested in. The first week was a training and introduction week spent in a hotel in Windsor. This included a crash course in basic accounting, a partner dinner and a chance to network with partners and directors, being set up with a work laptop, and getting a grasp of any basic admin points before starting work. I was made to feel like PwC wanted me to work for them after I graduated. Additionally, we were actively encouraged to request feedback from the different people we worked with to understand our strong points and where we can improve which helped me gain knowledge of what people wanted and expected from me during my internship.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel like there is a set up in the firm such that it helps you progress from junior associate to manager level should you want to go for it. PwC also support you in training for the ACA qualification which in itself offers many future employment prospects. However, I think that the turnover rate at the firm is quite high and many people move line of service or into industry at the end of the three year training contract meaning many people tend to not try and progress to the higher levels.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The other interns on my intake were great. Despite not being in the office with them constantly, we met every Friday for drinks and would often try and organise something for weekends or after work. It was extremely beneficial having three networking days with all the interns around the UK because it gave me chance to meet others on the program. I would have struggled to do this on the internship alone as it was rare I ever got to work with another intern.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I had to move to London for my internship and found living and socialising were very expensive but this is as expected for London. As PwC has offices all over the country, I should expect this differs by location. However, I found rent and transportation very costly whist I was working.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was great. 24 hour night tubes started when I was halfway through my internships which made travelling around London at night so much easier. There was always something to do and whilst the cost of rent was high, eating out and socialising was no more expensive than other big cities such as Nottingham. Overall, I loved living in London and was glad that I moved there for my internship having never previously lived in London before.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I feel like there could be opportunities if you look for them. Although, we weren't actively encouraged to join activities such as the sports teams, we were placed in a social group and invited to all the office socials including a massive summer ball at the end of the internship with other London Assurance staff. This made me feel very included and part of the firm.
