The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 6-week internship! My colleagues were really supportive and there was a great work atmosphere in the office. I was also given plenty of projects to work on, as well as shadowing opportunities with partners and directors, so I got a full insight into what working for the company would be like.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. When I was unsure of a concept or didn鈥檛 understand a task I had to complete, there was always someone on hand to explain things to me. Everyone was very generous in giving up their time to chat to me, and I was also given the opportunity to get involved in social activities with my social team as well.
I had a People Manager who overlooked my performance on my internship. We had three meetings in total, and in these we talked about how I was finding the internship, as well as any feedback I had received from people I had been working for. He also helped me to find people to shadow. It was really useful having someone to discuss my progress with and turn to for advice.
I was booked onto projects by the resourcing team so I was fully booked the whole time I was there. There were some days where I felt a little too busy and other days when I had some spare time, but there was always people I could go to if I had spare time who could find me things to do.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I thought I would be. I helped create graphs and manipulate spreadsheets which were used in reports that were sent out to clients. I also worked on a project where my research was included in a blog published on the PwC website.
Time management is a skill I have definitely developed over my time here. Having to juggle multiple projects, and working for more than one person at one time meant that I have had to prioritise work and work efficiently to meet all deadlines. This is something that I will take with me into my final year at university and beyond.
The Company
The atmosphere was much more laid-back than I expected. The office is organised into social teams, so it鈥檚 really easy to get to know the people you are sitting with. The open plan nature of the office means that it is easy to walk over to someone to discuss what you are working on.
The internship was very well organised. The 3-day residential induction provided a good introduction to the company and the line of business, whilst allowing time to mix with other interns from across the country. When I arrived in the office I had already been put on multiple projects, so I always had something to work on, and my deadlines and commitments were clearly laid out from the start.
The residential induction was a clear way of showing how much the company invests in its interns. The fact that directors and partners took time out of their schedules to talk to me about the work they do, and answer my queries, also made me feel valued by the firm.
Company Parties/Events
I would love to be offered a graduate job here. The internship is a great opportunity to find out what it would be like working here, before committing to a full-time graduate role. It also allows you to meet people who can provide you with advice on how to capitalise on the opportunities presented to you during the internship.
The Culture
I attended 3 social events with my social team during my time here, and every Friday the whole department was invited to drinks. Overall there was lots of opportunities to get to know colleagues and other interns in the department.
In London prices are high, but the salary we were paid covered my expenses.
I didn鈥檛 try out the nightlife whilst on my internship, but in London there is a wide variety of nightlife to get involved with.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in. Each social team has a social budget so there were some great activities on offer such as go karting and crazy golf. There were also drinks every Friday as mentioned earlier.
