    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a lot more enjoyable than I expected - it is my third work placement/internship and has been by far the best. I was given the opportunity to work with four different teams on different clients over the six week period, so it never became dull or repetitive.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very friendly, welcoming and approachable. The people I worked with were very patient when it came to explaining accounting concepts and what was required of me. When I completed tasks well I was given positive feedback and I felt like I made a good contribution to the team's work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The guidance provided was excellent. Each intern is allocated a 'people manager', who is a senior associate who you meet with every week or so, and also a 'buddy', who is in their first or second year at the firm and can help you with more informal things.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Quite busy. I worked from 8:30am to 6pm each day with around half an hour for lunch, and usually had to complete a few additional things outside of working hours such as typing up notes from meetings, finishing off pieces of work or replying to emails.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing everything that a first year associate at the firm would be expected to do. The work I completed was challenging but rewarding as I knew it was important to the audit and not just 'typical intern work' such as photocopying etc.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a huge amount about financial statements and accountancy, and hopefully this will benefit me in my future career. The internship began with 5 days of training, where it was assumed that nobody had any prior knowledge of accounting or finance. Balance sheets, income statements and cashflow statements were covered in detail as well as audit frameworks and more practical things we needed to know to complete the internship (timesheets, expenses, software).

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was quiet enough during the day to be able to concentrate easily and get on with your work, but whilst still maintaining a friendly atmosphere. It is open plan and uses hot-desking, so you find yourself sitting next to different people each day and getting to know lots of new faces. There are 'breakout areas' to sit when you take a phone call or want to work in a more relaxed atmosphere and talk a bit more to people.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation was honestly amazing, PwC have a dedicated team to organise every detail of the internship. If you had a preference for shadowing a certain director or partner, or had an interest in a certain business sector then the resourcing team would do everything they could to secure the opportunity for you. The induction/training week worked well and gave everyone a chance to get to know other interns as well as learn the basics.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given the same opportunities as a graduate joiner would. The 西瓜视频 recruitment team regularly emphasised how the internship is more competitive than the graduate scheme as the applicants are of a higher calibre and so they invest as much time in us as possible in the hope that we will return next September. We were given 5 days of training at the beginning of the internship and set objectives with our people manager, which were regularly reviewed.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would absolutely love to work at PwC in the same office and same line of service as my internship. I'll find out on my last day whether or not there is a job offer for me. The opportunities within the firm are great, as you can train in one line of service, achieve your professional qualification then use the 'senior associate transfer window' if you would like to try something new such as tax or BRS.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Yes, although there were only two interns in the Sheffield office we got on very well with the Associates, who welcomed us into their peer group and invited us along to meals and nights out. We were also involved in a WhatsApp group with the Leeds interns, so we could arrange to meet up with them if we were working out on a client site in Leeds for the day or week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very cheap. I lived at home for the duration of the internship, but you can rent a room in Sheffield for less than 拢70 per week. Socialising is much cheaper than in the South. You can usually get a pint for less than 拢3. Car parking in the city centre is expensive but PwC offer discounts at the local Q-park.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good and cheap. There's West Street, Division Street and Carver Street which are all streets full of bars and clubs and all within 5 minutes walk of the office. Leadmill is 5 minutes in the opposite direction. There are bars and restaurants such as Bills, Cafe Rouge and Browns underneath the office, and you receive 20% employee discount at those when you show your ID card.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes - a few months before I started all the interns were invited to the office's annual dinner, along with future graduate joiners, and we were all able to bring a plus one. It was a three course dinner with champagne reception so was a great way to meet people! A few weeks before I started we were invited to a Sports Day competing against other local offices. Then we had a peer group meal and an office summer BBQ whilst I was there. Everyone from the office got involved, not just the younger associates.
