The Role
I enjoyed the internship greatly. I was always busy which ensured didn't get bored too easily and took part in a variety of different tasks in Tax involving VAT, Transfer pricing and other areas. The team around were very friendly and accomodating, and encouraged me to ask questions and be proactive. Overall I felt I integrated well into the team.
I felt very valued by my colleagues considering I was only there for 6 weeks. They gave me plenty of responsibilities from the first day. I even had the chance to sit in a few meetings with a partner and go on a client visit with him which was a good experience. Everyone around was open to any questions I had.
PwC make sure you're given a lot of support from the first day by giving you a "buddy" and a people manager to help moniter your progress and integration into the team you're joining. Furthermoe, everyone around me was open to any questions I had and helping me or pointing me in the right direction. The open desk policy helps make the environment more supportive too.
There were a few quieter days as it was the summer and therefore less busy, with a lot of the staff going on holidays too. But for the most part I was kept busy with a range of different roles.
I was given a lot of responsibility considering my limited knowlege of the field. When I felt more confident to ask for something more technical, I ws able to freely ask a manager and tat manager would allocate something important for me to look at.
I learnt a lot more about the finer details and technicalities of the field. The training was very good, with a 3 day induction tutoring you on the different aspects of tax. Furthermore you learn a lot with guidance on the job. It's too early to say if it's assisted me in my degree however!
The Company
Very friendly and positive. Everyone open to questions and it's not too quiet either which I personally like (the environment of a vibrant office).
Organised for the most part but for tax, you don't know what you're working on in advance like assurance, it's more day to day. So most days there was always something to do, but occasionally it was quiet. The induction was very well organicsed however.
I personally believe the firm invested a lot in me and made me feel welcome even though I was there for a short period of time. I felt like a full time employee during my time and was treated like one too. Everyone was around to support me, and the fact you create personal objectives with your people manager also help towards training and development.
Sports and Social Club
Very appealing. As long you show a strong work ethic, effort and a desire to learn, it's very likely you'd be given a graduate offer.
The Culture
Because there were a lot of young associates and managers, there are a lot of sports/social events planned.
Reading is a nice town with lots of good resteraunts/shopping etc. but not too far off London prices.
Nightlife was fairly good, but the drinks are a little more expensive than average (拢4.50 for a pint).
Definitely as mentioned earlier with the sport and social side of things.
