    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my work placement more than expected. I think this is down to being surrounded by an excellent team that were always happy to have me get involved with the work they were doing. I had the opportunity to do lots of shadowing in different areas of the business as well as having visits to clients sites which kept things interesting throughout the internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • By the end of my internship at PwC I feel I had developed a good working relationship with the people I worked most closely with in my department. I was trusted enough to work on projects independently and I feel this showed they valued me as a member of the team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The buddy scheme at PwC is brilliant as it gives interns an instant support network upon arrival. Having someone to ask all the stupid questions you're too scared to ask someone more senior is really helpful. Having said that, I never met anyone that wasn't willing to stop and offer help or guidance if I was struggling, no matter their position.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The amount of work I had varied quite dramitically during my time at PwC. Towards the begining of my internship there was not a lot for me to do in terms of being directly able to work on a project myself, but my buddy did a great job of organising extra shadowing sessions, so I was always doing something.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I was given more resposibility than I expected an intern to receive. I was allowed to work independently on projects which resulted in me producing deliverable reports that would be fed back to clients. I was also given the opportunuity to get involved the more unique open-ended projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learned at PwC may not directly relate back to my degree as a non-business 西瓜视频. However, the speed with which I picked up coding in ACL and html gives me confidence about going forward and trying to learn different coding languages that are more relevant to my degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The offie was quite quiet as a whole, but that didn't particularly bother me. The was a friendly atmosphere amoungst all staff which made the office feel very welcoming.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Once I started at PwC the organisation was fantastic. The people in charge of our training made sure we were only learning stuff relevant to our placement, which resulted in myself getting placed within the office a day early. But before the internship started the oraganisation was terrible, it felt like they were trying to put people off. Our first day training was at the opposite end of the country and they only confirmed that overnight accomodation was being provided 2 days before we were due to arrive, which seems ridiculous. I'm sure it left lots of people feeling slightly panicky about their travel arrangements.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given three days general training at a residential for all interns and then we had 1 or 2 days office based training depending on our stream of work. The office training was by far the most useful part of the week, although networking with other interns from all offices at the residential was really nice.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel I'm far more inclined to work for PwC after this internship. The atmosphere was much friendly than I expected within the firm and there were lots of different ways of developing within the firm that I didn't realise about.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • We had a great social scene amoungst the interns. We met up on a regular basis. Those of us based in the office regularly had lunch together and then we all met up weekly as a whole group to catch up with the people that were based at client sites more often. Casual Friday in the office made it really easy to pop out for drinks after work on a Friday.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living for me in Birmingham is a bit different as I just lived in my 西瓜视频 house that I was already renting. Overall, rent prices in Birmingham aren't too high and my salary for the six weeks easily covered my rent, bills and food for my time on the placement.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Birmingham is a massive city and I'm a 西瓜视频 at the university there so I already new the nightlife would be good. I'm glad that all the interns seemed to be up for socialising in my office as this meant we could go grab food and a drink a few times after work which was nice.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't get involved with any activities but we were told about the sports teams available to get involved with, most of them were on a break for the summer during my placement though.
