The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship at PwC Milton Keynes. The office is the smallest in the UK which in turn makes it one of the most sociable and welcoming. During my time in the office I participated in work football matches, sports day and the office Away Day in London which was great! Each day in the office was different and I worked on a number of clients. Although I would have liked to have had more oppurtunities to visit client sites, I accept that due to the time of year ( Summer being quiet period) this was not possible.
Every colleague I worked with was very thankful of my help and seemed to really appreciate my help even though they would have to teach me as I worked.
My buddy was always on hand to offer support and anyone I worked with was always there to help me too. My people manager stayed in constant contact and any questions I had were answered quickly in a supportive manner.
Due to the time of year some days I wasn't as busy as others but others I had plenty of work to keep me occupied for the full working day.
I was given plenty of responsibility during my internship, particularly in planning stages of client Audits. Although I was safe in the knowledge that any work I submitted would be checked over.
The experience of working in a highly proffesional yet social environment will help me work in any situation in the future as well as the importance of receiving feedback and development points.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really sociable and friendly from day one. From the first day in the office everyone introduced themselves at the first opportunity and offered their help. There were multiple wellbeing and social schemes on the go in the office inluding the Wellbeing Olympics, Jenga competitions and a colouring competition. Everyone would always offer to get you a drink if they were heading to the coffee machine too
The work placement was really well organised. Starting with a 3 day residential where we received lots of relevant training to the jobs we would be doing in our offices. Once in the office we had further training and there was always work to be done as well as opportunities to visit client sites and shadow.
The firm clearly invests heavily in training by hiring out a hotel for 3 days for our inductions. Plenty of time in the first week is spent training via tutor sessions as well as online e-learns which help to get you familiar with the work in the office before you start.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, although I haven't had my meeting to determine whether I have received an offer yet, from speaking to other people in the office the intake is nearly 95% and you have to do something bad not to get an offer. Also the progressing within the firm is clearly mapped out.
The Culture
Yes, PwC clearly recruit like minded people through their rigorous recruitment programme. The benefit of this is that everyone gets on very well having not known each other. I got on really well with the other interns as well as colleagues in the office who were years older than me.
I was based in the Milton Keynes Office which is in central MK. I lived at home for the duration of the internship paying about 拢2.50 a day for parking and around 拢5 a day for lunch. The salary in MK for graduates is similar to London but the living costs are much smaller so it is a pretty good deal.
Being from the local area I already have a good idea of what the nightlife is like. Clubbing in Milton Keynes isn't great compared to big cities you'd be used to at university but there are lots of bars and smaller venues which offer a good night out although it can be quite pricey.
There were lots of oppurtunites for activities outside of work. There was Monday Night Football every week after work and office trips to London as well as a monthly subsidised office bar tab at the pub down the road from the office.
