The Role
It was a very insightful 6 weeks. I learned a lot about the systems PwC uses and what it means to be working in the line of Assurance. I have enjoyed meeting new people and networking with them.
I felt like my hard work did pay off, because my team mates told me I was doing a very good job. They always wanted to help and the environment is not a competitive one. The people are one of the best assets of PwC and they were a big part of my experience.
Mainly I received support from my colleagues, because the managers didn't have as much time as them to spare. But they taught me a lot and there was nothing that I ended up not understanding. They were very helpful, and didn't frown at my questions.
For about 3 weeks and a half of the internship I had quite a lot to do, but that was only because I asked for additional work all of the time. The rest of the time I didn't have much to do, which lead me to network with people from the office.
After the first few days I was working with the team, they realised I could do a lot of work by myself, which made them give me a lot more responsibilities. I welcomed that and it made my job a lot more pleasant. However, because of the short duration of the internship (6 weeks), there was not a big window for me to do a lot of work.
I received a lot of training in Accountancy and Audit, in addition to the actual work I was doing. These 2 combined will surely help me with my career and studies, because they were embrained in my mind. I believe my time with PwC will reverberate throughout my life and career
The Company
Depending on the client I was on, people were more prone to talking and having fun. In the actual office it wasn't too carefree, as people would not converse too much. It also depended on the team I was working with. Some weeks I worked with people that liked chit-chatting and that made the environment quite light, but some times I worked with people that liked doing their jobs without interruption. Overall, we could listen to music which made the work a lot more agreeable.
It was very well organised and the Resourcing team did a great job at positioning the interns. However, there were a lot of days where we knew we wouldn't have much to do, therefore we tried to occupy ourselves doing e-learns or networking with people. This didn't have anything to do with the organisation of the intership, for it was designed to be like that.
There was not enough time for PwC to give us much personal training, apart from the actual work we were doing. From the 6 weeks we had of the internship, one of them was solely dedicated to training, which made our work a lot easier to understand. They did invest a lot on us, giving the interns the latest technology to help with our work.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
On my fourth week of work I was offered a graduate job after I finish university. I was very happy because it meant I could live in the city I've been working in (Bristol) and that I also don't have to worry about looking for jobs in my final year. I was very happy to hear about it even before I finished the internship, because it meant I was doing a good job.
The Culture
There were social engagements but overall many people were in holiday which made the social scene quite grim. The interns did get together weekly, and there were opportunities to meet new people over sports sessions and summer parties. There was a party every 2 weeks.
The price was what I expected, because I lived in quite an amazing part of Bristol, with a lot of nice restaurants and pubs. It wasn't cheap but I wasn't expecting it to be cheap. The food price wasn't too bad. There was a lot of socialising due to a very young crowd in Bristol. From Thursday to Sunday there was a lot of people in the streets, restaurants and pubs.
I didn't go out
There were a lot of sports opportunities in PwC. Over 12 different teams and with flexible lessons. There was also a Game of Thrones competition happening, where you were given a house and people would get points over different things. There was also a Great British Bake-Off competition in the office.
