The Role
Working at PwC for 11 months was a fantastic experience for myself. I worked alongside a wide range of different individuals of differing stages during their career, not to mention the number of clients that I was able to learn about and complete work over. The experience has been invaluable for me, not to mention the fact that I am now 7 out of 15 exams of the way through my ACA qualification.
When working at PwC, the team effort attitude is portrayed across the board. There is no job that could be completed without every member of the team pulling their weight, and those who take charge and manage these jobs always make sure that you are aware of this and thank you for your hard efforts. I felt I was a vital cog in a well oiled machine!
The support that I received from my colleagues, especially my people manager, was fantastic. There was nothing that I felt was a stupid question, and through their support, you can produce work of the highest standards. Your people manager is there to support you through your time at PwC but also provide advise else where. Even though I was only there for 11 months, my people manager was keen to find out about my career goals and assist me in being able to achieve these.
Long hours comes as part of the nature at PwC and any large professional services firm. Whilst January - March is naturally much busier than the rest of the year, a flexible working policy takes shape and at no point did I feel pressured to work when I didn't need to. If I wanted to leave early one day, I could do so with permission from my manager as long as I make up the time else where during the week. The job is not an easy one, and you are expected to work hard, but that is what I wanted, and would rather that than being bored at work!
You are provided with a large amount of responsibility whilst working at PwC and this quickly increases during your time with the firm dependent on the jobs that you work on. There were a number of small jobs that I conducted work on, where most of the hours of work completed was by myself, without someone above me overseeing things.
During my year at PwC I have learnt more than I could have imagined, not only technically, but also my communication, time management and work life balance skills. PwC will allow you to sit 7 of the ACA exams during your year, which is a large investment by them, as well as a number of courses and training to develop your knowledge. You learn a huge amount through on the job experience however, something which is assisted by your peers.
The Company
The majority of people working at PwC are young and at the start of their careers. This promotes a hugely positive environment, and means that I have made friends for life! Of course you are always aware that there is work that needs to be completed however, and so if you are ever in need to somewhere quiet to sit and knuckle down, this is available to you. The socials within the office are great, and cater for people of all backgrounds with differing interests.
As a placement 西瓜视频 you join alongside the new grads, and follow their pathway until you leave. This means that it is organised fantastically well. You will spend the first few months spending a lot of time on training courses and in college studying for your exams, however this quickly changes come January, when you spend a lot more time at client sites and working. There are always opportunities for you to tailor your time with the firm, so long as you speak to your people manager and the resourcing team, to allow you to work on jobs that are of interest to you.
PwC invest a huge amount in you and the training that you are offered. As mentioned you will sit 7 of the 15 ACA exams and take part in all of the graduate training during your 11 months with the firm.

So long as you complete and pass all 7 of the exams that you sit and management get along with you, you'll be offered the chance to return as a second year graduate with the firm once you finish your degree. There is also the flexibility to change lines of service, or move office at this point via an interview. I will be returning once I graduate to the Reading office!
The Culture
The social scene within PwC is fantastic. The ethos of work hard play hard really comes to mind. There are monthly final Friday drinks in the office, the annual summer ball, christmas parties, as well as Friday trips to the pub and anything else that people organise. There is also a strong sport showing, with weekly five-a-side football, and an office cricket team. Of course there is also the annual PwC hockey tour!
Reading is an expensive area to live, however as a result your salary is increased to recognise this.
Readings nightlife is varied, with a number of things going on. It is what you make of it, and your colleagues will make sure that you have a good time!
There are a number of sporting activities that take place, with weekly five-a-side football, and a cricket team to name a couple. There also also both alcoholic and non-alcoholic events created by the sports and social committee, to make sure that everyones tastes are accounted for, and to drive the social atmosphere that exists within the office and the firm. A personal favourite was the unofficial annual pub golf tournament!
