The Role
Really enjoyed the placement year. It was challenging and a steep learning curve but also really valuable and enjoyable.
The best part was that no one knew whether you were a business placement or a graduate. This meant you were given equal responsibilities and were valued and appreciated in the same way.
Support was there from your people manager whenever you needed them. On each individual client, the team I worked with created a very supportive atmosphere, everyone was more than willing to help.
There was a variety of work loads at different times of the year. As expected, during 'busy season' there were many long days. There were also quieter times of the year. Balancing college work was actual easier than I had imagined as you get a lot of time off work.
I felt I was given adequate amount of responsibility to challenge me and keep me interested, but never felt too out of my depth. If I wanted more responsibility, there was also more to be given.
Skills were not particularly relevant for my final year of my degree, but will be very helpful for work after university.
The Company
Much of my year was spent outside of the office, based at client sites. At each client site, the team I was working with was always incredibly supportive and friendly. Whenever I was in the office, everyone surrounding me in my work group and client team were friendly, enthusiastic, helpful and fun.
I think the placement year as a whole was extremely well organised. I was able to experience a range of different work, varying from both internal and external audit, as well as a wide variety of clients from large FTSE 100 companies to smaller public sector companies as well. I also really valued being treated the same as any other graduate as a placement 西瓜视频 and given equal opportunities.
PwC invested heavily in us as placement 西瓜视频s, something which not many other companies offered (even at other big 4 firms). During the year we were given the same training as all first year graduates in relation to both the internal assurance training and college time. In the 11 months, we completed the first 7 exams for the ACA qualification.

Future employment prospects at PwC are very exciting and likely! After completing the 11 month placement, I was offered a job to return to following university, taking a lot of stress out of final year. The development opportunities when I return are massive, from completing the ACA qualification to promotions within such a vast international firm.
The Culture
As PwC is such a large firm, and there is no differentiation between placement 西瓜视频s and graduates, I joined a group of over 60 others. This meant that the social aspect was fantastic, and the whole firm has a young and exciting atmosphere. There was a social club to be a member of as well as a wide variety of sports clubs etc.
Being on placement in Birmingham was great fun. The cost of living was reasonable for being very central in a big city, lots of entertainment/pub/theatres/restaurants/music venues nearby and all very reasonably priced. Many others from PwC lived near to the office base which meant it was a great place to live and socialise.
The nightlife was really great in Birmingham. There are many places to go out for dinner, drinks and clubs. As the city is quite big, there was a huge variety in places to go to suit all different kinds of people, but all felt quite close by which was really nice.
There were loads of opportunities to get involved outside of work. There is a sports committee which organises different teams such as netball, hockey and football. There are many one off events for fundraising and just for fun. During the year I completed a tough mudder as part of one big PwC team.
