The Role
Working at PwC has been an excellent experience. I had the opportunity of working in Belfast, Glasgow, London and Sri Lanka in a technology consulting role. Working in different locations in a very interesting line of work was really enjoyable and the whole placement was far more than what I had anticipated.
My colleagues were very good in helping me integrate into the team. All of my work was project based but no matter what new team I joined people always went out of their way to help me and ensure I was adapting to the new working environment.
The support received throughout the year was very good. Having been travelling for a lot of the year it was key that I had good support and my people manager and project teams continuously offered me that and were always on hand should I have had a question or issue.
On a daily basis I was generally very busy. A lot of the work to me was new and therefore extremely interesting. I spent 6 months working for a client in London which did result in being very busy but you see the rewards from your work and also get the added benefits of getting to be in London throughout the week.
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout the year and that increased as the year progressed. As the only member of the project team to travel to a client in Sri Lanka a lot of responsibility was given to me. I felt that through delivering work of a high standard I was never seen as a ‘placement’ Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ. If you work hard then people develop the trust in you and you responsible will increase no matter what your grade.
Throughout placement I daily developed skills through different tasks. From learning to manage multiple tasks, deliver and present reports and presentations and complete high quality work for a client. All of these I will be able to utilise within my final year at university.
The Company
In Belfast the office atmosphere is great. Every first Friday of the month we dress down and after work go for drinks at the Hilton. The Social Committee also organise events throughout the year which is great.
The placement was very well organised. I joined with 5 tech business placements and we joined the new graduate training with 13 graduates. I was then aligned with my sub competency and had 6 weeks of technical training related to that. Following this I was then resourced onto different projects. In April I went through moderation like every other employee at the firm.
The first 8 weeks of my time at the firm was within training and during that time I also sat my Prince2 qualification and 3 online Oracle Fusion Cloud training courses. Throughout the year there is countless training programmes and courses you can undertake should you want too.

With regards to the future I have been offered to rejoin in September 2017 as a new graduate where I will join the 2 year graduate programme. Having already built up a network of people I am looking forward to re-joining and beginning to progress within the firm.
The Culture
Yes, a lot of the team we joined with and went through training with are now very good friends. Whether it is meeting up at the weekends in Belfast or having dinner with them whilst working in London.
I chose to live at home which i was thanful of as i travlled Monday - Friday for a majority of the year. Belfast's living costs though are very reasonable as are the costs for socialising.
Very good!
Yes, there is always something to get invloved in. From running a marathon for charty to going paintballing and go karting. Something for everyone
