The Role
The internship has been very enjoyable. I learnt a great deal about the accountancy industry as well as general auditing procedures, which was a great experience.
My colleagues were incredibly approachable and I definitely enjoyed my time working with them. For such a big firm, I was surprised at how appreciative and helpful the colleagues were.
You are assigned a people manager as well as buddies which help you settle in and mitigate any problems that may arise.
Some days were busier than others, but my colleagues always made an effort to make sure I had some work to do.
I as given the chance to speak directly to clients which was great and accelerated my development.
I will definitely choose to take part in accountancy based modules at University and the general people skills and teamwork that you learn on the job will assist your personal development in years to come.
The Company
The atmosphere was great, and everyone was very approachable and happy to assist the interns. The positivity throughout the office was a great asset to the firm, and made all of the interns feel comfortable working there. At first, it is a little daunting to be in an office for the first time but the general atmosphere helps you settle in very quickly and overall you will have a great experience.
The internship in general was very well organised and it was clear that the firm had prepared diligently to make sure that the interns had work to do and they were kept active. The firm allowed me to travel to different offices to meet new people in different service lines to expand my knowledge of the firm and what they do. This was a great experience for me and was a clear example of how the firm are interested in your personal development and learning. You are assigned a people manager who accelerates your development and the buddies that you are assigned help you with personal development.

Future employment prospects within the firm are spoken about on a regular basis. Apparently, there is a relatively high success rate of converting a job into a graduate role but as in any industry, there is no guarantee. In addition, if you wish to change locations o lines of service, you will have to decline an offer and reapply which is discouraged given the rigorous application process.
The Culture
The social scene is great and all of the interns made an effort to meet up after work and on weekends. It is a great way to meet new people and as everyone has the same goal you will have a lot in common. Social activities are encouraged by the firm through organised events including sports and evening drinks.
I was based in London so the general living costs were quite expensive. Luckily however, I was living at home so I saved a lot on the accomodation front. Socialising involves London prices so you have to be prepared to pay a little more but you are getting paid so treat yourself! This is definitely a disadvantage of working in the London office compared to the regional offices.
I was based in London so the nightlife there (as you can imagine) is apparent. There were constant evening drinks and team socials so you were always kept very occupied with the team that you were working with. This was a great aspect of the internship as you developed both inside and outside the office.

There was a sports day and other interesting events that took place throughout the internship so there are plenty of activities to get involved in outside of work. Cricket and golf days were also advertised to Interns.
