    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a very good insight into how life at PwC would be. Although starting slow, the placement quickly picked up pace as the team got used to you being around. I was given jobs that added real value and this was exciting. I personally thought that 6 weeks is a little short, as I was only just starting to get into it by the time we have to leave.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel that as a Data Assurance intern, the work that the data team isn't fully appreciate by the Audit / wider Assurance team. This is made evident by conversations had with members of the assurance team that ask what the data team actually do. However, the data team made me feel valued, trusting me with jobs that had tight deadlines and giving me guidance where neccessary. I was able to add value during my time here.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support scheme at PwC is fantastic - my buddy helped me fit in from my first day and would consantly provide me little bits of information that I wouldn't have otherwise had picked up coming into a new job. My People Manager was very supportive and let me know that they were able to be seen whenever neccessary. Aside from the set structure, I was made aware that I could approach anyone in the team for help and they would provide it - made evident by the many questions I asked the wider team that were answered straight away and without any hint of annoyance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the start of the internship I was finding myself with a lot of free time, and towards the end of the first week in the office I had run out of things to do whilst waiting for jobs to come in. However, once I was assigned real projects to do the work was good and kept me occupied throughout - I had up to 4 projects at once that I as working on, whichwas interesting to be able to try and manage my time well and communicate with the team about when work could be finished.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility durng the internship, and was allowed to work inependently on a number of clients. I felt that sometimes this was masked when my work would have to be checked many times before communicating to the audit team that a problem was found - this was frustrating at times as it felt that there was a bit of a lack of trust in the quality of work I was producing.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My particular degree is quite unrelatd to the work that I was doing at PwC, so I would score the placement fairly low for assisting me in my degree studies. However, it has taught me the value of self evaluation, time management and working in a business environment. I believe that this internship should be regarded highly in the eyes of potential recruiters that sets the standard for quality of work and business etiquette.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was a lot more relaxed than I expected. People were able to approach each other and ask questions that didn't relate to work. I believe that there was a common knowledge that as long as you were producing the work that needed to be produced and to the standard expected, there was a fair amount of leniency in how you went about it. I believe that for an office the sizeof Birmingham's, the social life is a bit worse than expected - a lot of people tend to keep to themselves and there isn't a lot of interaction outside of work hours.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Towards the start, there was a bit of difficulty being assigned work to do, however this is mainly due to the nature of how the projects come in. Shadowing was organsed for me and there was good opportunities throughout the internship to see other areas of the firm. I believe that once the team were used to the interns being there, the internship was extremely well organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe that PwC contributd massively in termsof monetary figures to my personal training and development. A lot of money was spent on travel to / from the induction event, on the induction event and also travel to / from shadowing opportunities. I was provided a very good laptop for the duration of my internship, and a lot of more senior people dedicated their time towards my development - which although was indirect I feel that this was a massive investment.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They make it clear during the process that if you perfomr well during the internship, are enthusiastic and don't do anything too badly wrong, then an offer is quite likely to be made to you after you complete the internship. This is due to the application process for the summer internship being the carbon copy of the graduate scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • I feel that this was something that was lacking during the internship - although some efforts were made, a lot of people kept themselves to themselves, or just talked about work. This is to be expeced somehwat as a lot of people have other committments, such as family etc., however I believe that for an office of Birmingham's size the social scene was poor.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Birmingham is quite a cheap place to live, with decent apartments available for sub 拢100k to buy outright. The cost of food is fairly cheap, and there are plenty of bars / pub where you can find a pint for 拢3 or cocktails for 拢5. The office is alsofairly accessible from the surrounding areas via train or tram, meaning that you can live outside of the city and not have too long a travel time into work every day.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Broad Street is a favourite among Birmingham locals and uni 西瓜视频s alike. There are plenty of nightclubs and bars along here. There are also several comedy clubs in the area, as well as the Birmingham Hippodrome which regularly features touring productions (and also the Birmingham Royal Ballet). Brindleyplace is somewhere to find some more classy drinks along the canal, as well as the Jewelerry Quarter which has plenty of trendy bars. Digbeth is never a dissapointment, with plenty of quirky places to spend an evening.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There weren't many opportunities that were immediately brought to my attention, however there is regular sporting activities etc. that occur after work. I feel that these could be advertised a lot more, especially to interns, as they can feel rather exclusive as you have to know the right people to find out about them.
