    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It's been great! I've got to have a look at a small company, a large food company, an interim report on a huge company, an internal audit in the public sector, and learned about how PwC works. The 2 surprises I've had are the amount of travelling - only had one day in the office! The other is just how welcoming everyone is, I wasn't ready for that at all and without exception, every new team that I've walked into have been brilliant with me, encouraging me to ask questions and taking the time to show me how to do things.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The teams I've worked in have always given me as much to do as they thought was appropriate. On some occasions, that's meant keeping myself busy for an hour or two but on the whole I've been given as much as i can keep up with given I'm learning most of it for the first time. The team are consistently helpful on every job in taking the time to show me how to do anything I'm unsure on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There's a clear structure in place to offer support. We each get assigned a 'buddy' who is the go-to person for all minor-moderate queries. We're assigned a 'People Manager' who helps maintain your feedback and review your work every few weeks to ensure you stay on track. Finally, the resourcing department can assist with anything related to which client you're assigned to, and if you needed to switch for any reason.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days are busy from 8:30 to 5:30, but there will be times when there aren't any immediate tasks that can be worked on due to the lack of knowledge. This is normal in an internship like this. We're not all on a 6-week interns-only schedule, we're given 1 week of training then placed into teams that operate as usual. You're treated as a normal member of staff, whilst taking into account that your ability is not yet at the level of everyone else.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Throughout the internship, you're never given tasks that don't get checked over evenually by another member of the team, so you don't need to worry about making costly mistakes - it will get picked up. Specific responsibility will vary from week to week, I've been given nothing in particular some days and able to lead meetings other days, it can be a little hit and miss.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The broader knowledge you develop is something that will help me not only at university but in other areas too. The technical skills developed in th 6 weeks will give me a big head start over anyone who didn't do it when it comes to (hopefully) starting a graduate job. I already know how to use a few of the programs and simple administrative tasks that aren't linked to auditing (feedback, expenses, time sheets, etc.).

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office has a really friendly atmosphere but, as an intern, you don't spend much time in the office. Most of the time is spent on client sites where the atmosphere will vary from job to job, but the PwC staff are always very friendly and people tend to quietly get on with their work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • All interns from around the UK get a few days of training together at a hotel, and are then given a further few days of training in their local offices. Following this, they become a team member like any other, and each team has mebers of varying degrees of experience, skills and ability. Structured meetings are set up throughout the internship to keep everyone on track and address any concerns.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week of the internship is all training. We're given the skills we need to be able to join audit teams, including being given our own laptops and the required training to use PwC-specific programmes. In our first working week, we're required to come up with objectives to do with career development based around the principles of PwC. These objectives are monitored as the internship progresses.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • PwC put their graduates onto a 3-year scheme, by the end of which you will be ACA qualified. This is widely regarded as the most valuable thing a young accountant can put to their name and opportunities to move into industry or to other areas of PwC open up once those 3 years have been successfully completed.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • PwC do a fair amount to encourage socialising between colleagues. This ranges from Friday evening drinks, to surprise lunches and tickets to sporting events. I've been invited to a large social a few weeks after my internship finishes which was a very nice touch.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Costs when working on a client near your home office are very low. Lunch is often provided at a canteen and there are no further costs associated with doing the job. For away trips, travel expenses are paid and a 拢40 a night food allowance is given.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I haven't explored the nightlife where I've been working, but the areas we go to are often the middle of large towns or cities because that's where the offices of clients are. The areas I've been to like York, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester all have healthy nightlife areas.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • PwC put on a sports day while I was there which was an opportunity for everyone to socialise outside of work. The Leeds, Hull and Sheffield offices were all invited and there are similar events throughout the year designed to increase networking and allow for healthy connections to be made.
