The Role
It was a very productive experience. There were always new things to learn and talk about in Tax. The welcome lunches were held from time to time to welcome me and everyone around me were humble, approachable and easy-to-talk to!
I was given enough work to keep myself busy such as Risk management, Bfes, Tax legislation research, creating excels, summarising account figures etc. Doing bits and pieces for the senior colleagues made me feel like part of the team. I was invited to socials and event which developed sense of belonging with the office and the team.
I was assigned a buddy who contacted me in advance before I joined the office. He was very welcoming, friendly and approachable. I could ask him anything about work related issues, car parking / queries about location or anything in mind! He helped me get shadowing opportunities from other line of services. I was also assigned with People's manager, who was very willing to help you with absolutely anything, give you useful advices and help you track your progress. They both were very frank and available at any time!
First few days, I did not have much to work but later on I got quite busier. First week of the internship, it takes time to learn technical tools and familiarise yourself with the 'Spark' platform. Once you get used-to it, senior colleagues will start giving you bits and pieces of works which will be enough to keep yourself busy.
It really depends on how proactive you are! If you want to do more rigorous work then you will always have that opportunity. I was given responsibility to draft a letter for client, do the initial research for tax legislations around loss streaming, corporation tax, face a client and participate in pitch practise. I would say participating in a 'client meeting' is an important responsiblity because it comes with high expectations of you from senior manager. You will have to leave a very good impression to the clients. Researching legilsation is a difficult task as tax rules could be so wide that it takes lots of time to narrow it down to client's scenarios.
I think in my individual case, it has been highly relevant. I am planning to write a dissertation in tax therefore internship in tax has been very useful! Moreover, you develop as a person throughout the internship and the professional environment in PwC hones your interpersonal skills.
The Company
It was very friendly office and everyone here is humble and approachable. Especially, being an intern means you get extra care and attention. The office has a good mix of people from different backgrounds. Every friday you come office in a casual clothing so that is quite friendly. It looks like a very good work-life balance here.
First 3 days are induction in a hotel where all 200+ interns meet together and we get basic trainings which depends upon our service line. On the fourth day you come to your local office for IT induction and further taining and the next day you get started working. It is easy to organise the shadowing opportunities and the avaiability of 'buddy' and 'people manager' makes things very organised. There is a tool to request a formal feedback which helps you to gather feedbacks from others. PS: You have to proactively organise shadowing opportunities because it may not have been organised.
When you join as an intern, you get your own personal laptop and sufficient technical training. Everytime you shadow some one, PwC pays for your travel expenses. Most importantly, everyone are ready to invest 'time' on you either it be an associate or a partner. Everyone is ready to talk to you and explain anything on your mind because they really want you to get the best out of this internship.

PwC is opening new teams such as Brexit team, M&A strategy, more variance in tax and audit specialism and exciting stuffs in digital technology. Therefore, the future employment prospects look very good. Also, the company allows you to experience different lines of services which improves the prospects within PwC.
The Culture
Social events are common including night outs, dinner, curry club etc. Every week there are events being held such as football with the colleagues.
Cost of living was affordable , around 拢100/week. There are good restaurants around including Banana tree. There are some Santanders bikes around the office!
There were not many clubs but the ones that are here are really good including 'Pink Punters'.
Apart from social events and drinks, there was a weekly football ran by colleagues in the office.
