    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my internship with PwC due to the fact that there was always something going on, whether it was client work, social opportunities or team days. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and I'd recommend it to anyone considering an internship and in particular with PwC. I was worried that it would be endless days of boring financial work but the tasks are so diverse, opportunities so vast and people so friendly that time flew!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was very nervous at the start of my internship, however, now I'd feel comfortable speaking to some of the senior members of the PwC West & Wales team about anything! One of the best things about the internship was that not only were we as interns treated exactly like regular employees but everybody was very friendly towards us despite not knowing us!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Furthermore, I was also worried about the amount of work and in particular new software that I would have to complete/deal with, however, it was comforting that they let us know on the first day that they wouldn't expect us to be Aura experts in six weeks and as long as we were trying our best, everybody would be happy to answer questions. This broke down any communication barriers and I was just as happy to ask anybody in the office a question regarding my work as they were to answer it! This allowed for an open, friendly and communicative working environment which I believed not only increased efficiency but improved satisfaction on the job.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 90% of the time I was kept very busy on a daily basis with a wide varety of tasks relating to different aspects of audit, however, it is worth noting that in one instance I was meant to be assigned to a client, however, their audit was completed early and for a couple of days I had no work to do despite the manager's best efforts at finding work for me! I know this is a difficult situation due to he uniqueness, however, it led to a couple of days of twiddling thumbs in the office.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Obviously with interns, you want to empower them and make them feel valued but at the same time not give them the reigns completely due to the fact that if they go wrong, the in charge would have to run them through it again/redo it himself. I wasn't expecting much responsibility due to the fact I didn't feel able enough to handle a lot of the work by myself, however, the people I was working with managed toprovide work for me to do in which I felt valued whilst also offering help at any point to ensure that I wasn't going wrong and felt free to ask any questions. I found this to be a good middle-ground between freedom and productivity.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Before this internship, I'd never dealt with internal systems such as Concur, Notes/Sametime or Aura, on the other hand, now I feel confident to a certain extent that given appropriate guidance, I could operate as a regular PwC employee. Although Audit doesn't directly relate to my degree and is more of a work opportunity for after University, I believe the work ethic and motivation which I have picked up during this internship will be crucial going into my final year of university. I feel that not only has this internship been extremely valuable to me in terms of the skills I've acquired but also proved invaluable as a starting block in my career with Finance & Business.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere within the office was innovative and friendly whilst maintaining an air of seriousness and productivity. This was my first experience working within an office and it was much better than I expected due to this combination, my pre-conveived conceptions of an office being absolute silence and staring at a screen 24/7 was much exaggerated and in some ways intimidating, I'm glad I got to have this experience of working in an office, even if it was only for a few days!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised extremely well with transparency amongst the hierarchy throughout, other than a hiccup here or there which couldn't be prevented in the form of client work finishing early and no work being set, every member of the PwC team who I encountered worked tirelessly to make this internship a success, make us interns feel valued and most importantly, keep us busy!!

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe that throughout my six weeks, I have learnt a lot in terms of training which if I were to return to PwC after University, I would feel partly trained already. Their method of training on the job keeps it fun, diverse and refreshing as opposed to a old-fashioned sit you in a room until you learn methodology. Over the past six weeks, my skills particularly within Finance and utilising PwC systems have greatly increased and I am happy that I got to have this experience/training.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I believe that PwC is the company for me, not only is the atmosphere/people so hospitable and hard-working, but the diverse range of opportunities within the organisation across different offices and lines of work appeal to a younger 西瓜视频 such as myself. I don't want to have to make a decision regarding being confined to one line of work in one office for the next 40 years of my working loife!!! The opportunities that PwC offer as well as the training qualifications would allow me to develop my skills as an accountant and in dealing with clients whilst also not closing the door on other opportunities which I may be interested in down the line.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • During our six week internship, I was lucky enough to have three training days in Windsor where we socialised with other interns from all over the country, as well as a social in Swansea, a PwC Wales summer ball at the Cardiff Museum and lastly, 4 games of competitive football with the PwC team against other financial firms/clients. I'd say that this has been the best social experience in my life which included sports, networking opportunities and relaxed enjoyment of social events!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living in my girlfriend's 西瓜视频 house in Swansea over the summer so I paid a reduced fee of roughly 拢40 a week including bills, this suited me perfectly as 西瓜视频 accomodation with either university (Swansea or Cardiff) would cost more than double. Furthermore, in Wales the cost of socialising is minimal with fuel prices and drinks/food prices being especially low to what I'm used to in London!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience the nightlife in Cardiff, however, I can tell you from two years of being a 西瓜视频 at Swansea University that the nightlife is great! There are seemingly unlimted numbers of bars/pubs/clubs in the town centre alone and I have had nothing but good experiences.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As I previously mentioned, there was a plethra of opportunities at PwC with the one I took the most advantage of being the PwC football team who competed every week on a Wednesday at Sophia Gardens.
