The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 11 week internship in the Forensic Technology Department of PwC, Belfast. I had a chance to meet other 西瓜视频 interns from all over the UK at a networking event in London. This event was extremely beneficial and I made friends and colleagues that I will remain in contact with for a long time. I have also had the chance to work on 5 client facing projects both locally and nationally. I have learnt some invaluable skills such as presentation skills, interpersonal skills and I have also improved my technical capability.
I feel like a valued member of the team. The team in Belfast ensured that I was always proactive and ensured that I had a wide range of intern jobs to do that would give me and insight into the broad range of services provided by the FTS department. There were many team events to take part in and I was always welcomed to take part.
I was given support and guidance from all team members. They ensure that I knew exactly what I had to achieve with each task and talked me through all project work before I made a start. I was assigned a manager for each project who I kept in close contact with. I was also provided with a people manager who was always available to talk to if I had any problems or concerning about both work and personal issues.
I wasn鈥檛 very busy at the start of the internship but as time progressed the days became jam packed! I preferred this as I am someone who likes to be busy and the days went so quickly this way. There will always be something for you to do so the main thing I had to remember was to ask for more work if the work load was low.
I was given the same responsibility as an associate 1 (which is the equivalent to a graduate.) I enjoyed this as I felt that I was getting a true experience of what it was like to work within the forensic technology industry. It also gave me a bit of freedom to express my ideas on certain projects and I felt that I added value to the projects I worked on.
The experience and skill set that I have obtained will be invaluable to my studies. I have seen some technologies that I think I could use and develop for my final year project. I have also improved my team work skills which will be beneficial for group work in the last year of my degree. Mainly, I have had to work to strict deadlines and ensure that I always remain organised and use my time efficiently. I think these skills will be the most beneficial to me next year.
The Company
PwC offers a very structured 西瓜视频 scheme. The main idea is to hire interns and placement 西瓜视频s with the idea of you coming back to the company in the future. This is exrememly helpful to a 西瓜视频 and reduces the pressure to find graduate job in final year and focus on your studies. The graduate scheme looks very appealing and also the perks of being a full time employee at this firm are second to none.
The Culture
The social scene among the interns was great. We all ate lunch together and sometimes made plans for the evening. Every Friday after work there was always something arranged for us to do. The social scene within the FTS team was good. There was weekends away, nights out, bun breaks, and sports events.
The cost of living in Belfast for the month is about 拢200+. It is relatively cheap. There are also lots of things to and lots of 西瓜视频 nights at the weekend. Compared to all my friends who live and work in England, Belfast has a lot to offer and for very good value.
Belfast has a lot to offer in terms of nightlife. If you like a qwerky bar and a more chilled environment there are plenty of those around the Cathedral Quarter. However, if clubbing is more your scene there are lots of places to go and many cheap 西瓜视频 night offers.
There were many opportunities to get involved outside of work. Each week we would have an email in regards to some sort of activity such as BBQs, Weekends away, nights out and even weddings! The team ensured that everyone was involved in all plans and they were always open to new ideas and team events to try.
