The Role
I throughly enjoyed my internship as the people were really friendly and willing to help.
I feel very appreciated by my colleagues for the work I've done. They always express sincere appreciation for the work I've done, irregardless big or small, and thank me for adding value to their project.
Each intern was allocated a Buddy and People Manager who look after their development throughout the internship. Buddies and PM also acted as points of contact and provided immense support over the course of the internship.
Work starts 9/930 till 5/530 depending on which office you are in. At times when it is near the project datelines, the team would stay till 8pm, but anyone is free to leave and not obliged to stay. People usually stay because they are very focused and hold a strong responsibility for their work, never "forced" to stay.
I was given a huge responsibility during my placement. I planned, collected data, made a presentation and presented it to the client myself. There were also other projects where I did not hold such a big responsibility and worked in a team to help with the making of presentation. It all depends on the project given.
It taught me how to translate academic knowledge into real industrial skills, which I believe would prepare me for my consultancy project in university. Team leadership rather than sole leadership was often demonstrated, which was inspiring and motivating
The Company
The general atmosphere was positive yet intense. Everyone was friendly and I was often greeted with smiles around the office. While PwC operated on a clear-table policy (ie we don't always know who is seated beside us), people who sat near me at the table always greet me and was happy to start a conversation with me (this often turns a bad day into a good one!).
It was well organised but improvements can be made. Everyone was assigned projects for their internship by the resourvce manager. However, occassionally the projects does not start till mid-internship and it's hard to find anything to do before that. This really depends on the availability of the project at that time and the sudden influx of interns might have been the cause of idle times.
We had access to My Development pages, which allowed us to enrol on courses during our free time, which allowed self/independent learning. PwC also actively encouraged the interns to work at the client site and covered our expenses - this gave us great exposure working at and outside the office

I have yet to get an offer as the management consultancy programme lasts 8 weeks while the assurance internship lasts 6 weeks. We have been told that if we did not make any major mistakes and reeived positive feedback for our performance, it is likely to obtain a graduate role. However, if you'd like to make a change to your applicaiton ie change office location or line of service, the chances are slimmer. I definitely would like to come back for graduate programme!
The Culture
Yes, social meetings are organised by the interns every week. The different lines of services within PwC also organised social events for interns and within the department. Interns were always encouraged to join these events to expand our network. Example, there are drinks session held in the office every Friday in one of the line of service, while there are others held outside the office.
The cost of living was cheaper than in Central London but as the social events are often held at the London office, drinks there are definitely more expensive. Cost of living in Central London is expensive near the town, however, if you choose to stay near the office, the accommodation could be more affordable/cheaper. As the pay at the London office is slightly higher, this would cover the extra costs and might not be a big concern for some.
I personally did not experience any Nightlife in the area I worked as I was often away from my office. However, if you work at the London Office, I am pretty sure the Nightlife would be great. The interns like to catch up over a drink at the Hays Galleria after work and I've heard quite a few say that the drinks there are brilliant! There are also alot of other places in Central London, which I believe are lively.
We are encouraged to get invovled in other activies ouside of work such as socials, Dragon Den event and meetings. It depends what your priorities are and while some spend a lot of time at work and developed a close bond with their project mates, others choose to take on light work and network outside of their project group members. Irregardless, we are definitely given many oppotunities to be involved in other activities outside of our work.
