The Role
The internship was slightly marred by the long commute (Kettering to Gatwick Airport), so be prepared that if based in a London office you will be expected to travel ANYWHERE in the Greater London area, even if you live outside of the city. However, I was able to work on a really exciting project with a great group of people which more than made up for the commute. The other interns were great as well - we got together weekly to catch up and go out and I've made some really great friends.
I was really lucky and was able to work in a small team with a wide variety of different grades - another intern, 2 associates, a senior associate, 2 directors, and a partner. They all went out of their way to make me feel included in the team, and gave me invaluable feedback at the end of the program.
The team that I worked with were great at giving me support throughout my internship. Any questions I had they gladly answered, and even went out of their way to give me extra training that they thought I would need. My People Manager was also very supportive and kept in touch with me every week to discuss any problems or questions I had.
It varies - sometimes manically so and I would stay until 7pm in the evening, others I wouldn't have very much to do. Whenever I wasn't busy though I was always asking other team members if they had anything they needed help with, so those days quickly built up.
I took responisbilty for a couple of projects, but was always overseen by someone more senior to ensure that I was on the right track. It was a great mix between having the freedom to tackle things from my own perspective but also having the support there in case I had any questions.
I now have a much more comprehensive set of computer skills, which will help in my degree. I've also gained invaluable knowledge in how to run meetings and communicate information effectively which will help me with group work and presentations next year. If I am successful in this placement and manage at attain a graduate job offer from PwC then the skills and training I've received here will put me at a big advantage to other graduate recruits.
The Company
The client site I worked on was very relaxed, and I was there 4 days a week. The PwC team in the client office made me fee welcome and ensured that I still had a full PwC experience. There were also lots of team dinners! The More London office was just very welcoming and not intimidating like other big professional offices are. Everyone is happy to help, and they are all very willing to sit down with you and discuss their work to give you a broader view of the firm.
The initial traning/welcome residential was fantastic and a lot of fun! However the project team I joined was only given 1 day's notice that I was coming, which didn't look particularly professional for them. It also meant that I had 2 days to find accommadation in central London seeing as my project was based in Gatwick and I live an hour north of London. I was told that I was either expected to commute for 5 hours a day, or pay for a hotel myself (which cost more than PwC paid me). Therefore I had to find somewhere to live and move to central London within a couple of days as the recruitment team were no help at all in helping me find an alternative or providing support in the matter.
The invested heavily in the first 3 days in which we went on a residential and were inducted into the company. This included networking, IT skills, information about the company, and all the processes PwC have in place. There is also the opportunity to sign up to various training days on different topics - you have to take a day of client site, but they're all free and you're encouraged to go.

They sound great! If I'm offered a job at the end of my internship then I'll definitely take it - PwC is a great firm to work for.
The Culture
Yes! Within out project team we went out for dinner once a week with US colleagues that had flown over for the project. In addition to this, as interns we went for a drink after work every friday and even got a few nights out in! The other interns really made the experience as enjoyable as it was, and it's nice to know a good group of people prior to joing the firm full time.
It was London - so expensive! I was paying 拢175 a week in rent, as well as travelling home at the weekends and trying to go out socially as much as possible. It wasn't the place to be to try and save some money.
It was London - so great, but expensive! We found some happy hour places and went out every friday night as interns. You have to be prepared to spend a little more than other places though. Try and make friends with one of the many London interns who are also at uni in London - they'll know the best places to go!
I was working on client site in Gatwick, so there weren't any. However if I had been placed in Central London then I would have had the chance to join a wide variety of sports team, social clubs, had more of a chance to socialise outside of work, and had a shorter commute so spend more time doing other things.
