The Role
I was an unforgettable experience. The amount of time and investment invested by PwC on interns is really great and I believe it is all worth it as for one, I truly enjoyed my 6 weeks here. It was great fun and the process of learning is smooth and colleagues are friendly and ever willing to help and answer to my endless queries.
To a great extent. Actual work and responsibility was given to me and feel valued. Although admin work, that is non-chargeable hours were done during the internship, they were grateful for my help, quoting them, ‘made my life so much easier’. I will always receive thank yous when I complete work for them and they kept me updated on the work I have done, a process which is important for my development and learning.
Guidance was always provided and clear instructions were always conveyed to ensure I understood my work and the background of the piece of work. My queries were also always answered. In addition, they would ensure that I am coping with the workload and asks me of my capacity before giving me a piece of work which I think is essential.
Well, I am not always busy and I find myself quiet sometimes. However, we have a group email link where I would ask for work there, to notify my team that I am available to help them with anything at all. Some days I am quite busy but I still manage to get my work done in time and of course, leave work on time. I find a great work life balance in PwC.
I was given real work by my colleagues. I will do some research on the topics given and summarise my work, which is an essential step for them when advising clients. Thus, I was given a certain amount of responsibility to hold throughout my time here which is great, as I find that this means my presence here indeed has made their life easier.
I have a module next year in business taxation and I believe my time here is a good start and introduction to my course next term! In addition, I now know how business works and what they should take note of in their field of business because I have no idea of it before joining. It was indeed an eye-opener!
The Company
Its not very noisy nor is it very quiet. You can hear people on phone calls or whatnot. The people here are friendly, they smile to you even if they do not know who you are and even if they are busy with their work. Their positive attitude portrays that despite the stress and pressure, they can still maintain their cool. Working environment here is great!
It started off with induction training which is a great platform to introduce the firm and departments we are allocated to and also, it is a great to meet the rest of the interns all over UK. We still kept in tough throughout the internship and had meet ups on weekends! Throughout the internship, helping various team members helped me pick up bibs and bobs and eventually, combining the information from various colleagues, I am able to piece together the whole picture and understand how the PwC work flow and technical work as well. It was well structured!
The firm invested a huge amount of time and money into us. Teaching interns on the background of projects, building up our technical skills, chance to shadow directors and managers, which takes up a large amount of their time, is expensive, I acknowledge that, but I believe this process managed to develop my performance and further my understanding and interest which is fundamental to interns. I am thankful for their investment in us interns, and I definitely am very grateful for that.

Company Parties/Events
With the knowledge, skills and experience in PwC, I got an insight into the work culture as well as people culture. Definitely a place everyone is dying to enter and hope for. The environment here is great and would definitely recommend it to my juniors to start applying early to increase the chance of getting into the firm or for internship opportunity as it is a chance you wont want to miss. I am still waiting for my job offer which I will know by the end of my internship
The Culture
I was lucky to be able to do my internship in July as it is the month where my team have their annual Away Day. We went to the Olympic Park, got inspired by the past Olympic champions, tried a few events of Olympic which I thought I would never have a chance to do it, especially for an international Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ like me. In addition, we have socials too, where we go out for dinner for special events after work such as birthday celebrations and also once, a day to GoApe at Battersea just made my internship better (it depends on your team really) but my team is so awesome!
Well, its in central London, cost of living is slightly higher than regional offices, but I guess its affordable with the pay we get as interns. The canteen food is pretty good too and its partly subsidised and you can get a pretty heavy lunch for under £5! As long as you don’t go to fancy, top restaurants, to me, the cost of living is okay in Embankment.
Nightlife here is great! It is not quiet at night here, so girls, don’t be afraid if you are leaving office late at night. There are a lot of pubs around for drinks or chilling after work. Its near the eye of London and its beautiful at night. You don’t have to worry about getting food at night, because there are plenty around the office!
I went to a few forums which is related to the current issue, Brexit, if you count that outside of work, which I think it is as it is outside the scope of my work but it’s a great exposure to the society you live in and also get to talk to PwC clients. They have PwC games when I first join and they have charity work too! There are lots of opportunities to get involved, you just need to ask!
