    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship with PwC. A combination of apportionment of real responsibility, a wide and interesting range of projects to work on, as well as a supportive and experienced team has meant mean that my time with the company has been amazing. The training for the internship scheme was additionally perfect in preparing me for the work that I would undertake.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As interns we are apportioned work which is used as an output to be presented to clients or internally. I feel as though the output I have produced has been useful to my team, and as such I feel valued by my colleagues. PwC's feedback system enables you to develop in line with the needs of your project and colleagues so that you are more valuable to your team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout my internship I have had fantastic support from my superiors. PwC assigns all interns with a ‘Buddy’, for day-to-day contact and support, as well as a People Manager, who monitors your progress and supports your work stream. The projects that you are assigned to are catered to your interests, and there is great flexibility to this end.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found that my work was generally in the pattern of peaks and troughs. For example in the run up to the submission of a project proposal I had been helping on I understandably was expected to work a couple of evenings in the office. In times where there is not as much work the team has been very flexible in directing me to other projects that potentially needed some more resources and which I might be interested in.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was struck by the level of responsibility that I have been given during my placement. The work that I have undertaken, with the support of the wider project team, has been presented to clients and distributed internally. This has made it extremely rewarding. I have also attended client meetings with my team, giving me an insight into the whole scope of the work that PwC undertakes.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The area of my internship has been directly relevant to my degree. The skills that I have developed will therefore assist me massively with my dissertation, particularly technical skills such as Excel, as well as data-finding skills and presentational skills. Not only this, but my leadership and relationship abilities have evolved, in line with the PwC Professional framework. I have proactively directed my work-stream into the areas that I am interested in, as well as learning to effectively network.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team has a collaborative nature, in order to share ideas and best approach projects. This has been clear in the office atmosphere. Interaction and professionalism are encouraged, and colleagues have been approachable throughout. At the beginning of our internship we had meetings with members of the senior team, as well as meeting the associates, and so I was familiar with all of the people in my office area.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. We initially had a two day induction with all of the interns from the company, in all offices and service lines. This was a great ice-breaker and gave us a general idea of the work that we might undertake. We then travelled to our office where we had another induction specific to our area of service. We were assigned to projects, and our project teams have been excellent in guiding us with our work.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During our induction we had a brief training in skills such as Stata and Excel amongst others. PwC has invested us in this sense (i.e. skill development) and by shaping us into PwC professionals. I have at no point during my internship felt undervalued – the level of responsibility and scope of the projects that we have been able to work on has been second to none.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • Within our team we have been on a number of socials organised by PwC. These have been a great way to network within the internship cohort, as well as out of it. The socials have been varied and have ranged from drinks to bowling. There are also a number of activities in the office, for example a baking rota.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In the first half of my internship I commuted on a two hour journey to get to work. This saved me accomodation expenses, although meant that I had limited time to relax and socialise. I then moved into a flat in London which is much more expensive, although there is a greater scope to socialise.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
