    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I extremely enjoyed the internship and would recommend it highly. I learnt many different things on the job and I am certain I will be able to use the skills learnt on the internship at university. All employees are friendly and willing to help, making it easier to settle in. Initially things started off slow and I would have to ask quite a few questions, but a few weeks later I was a lot more comfortable and was able to complete tasks alone and to a good standard.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues as I was given work that was going to be exposed to different clients and this made me feel more part of the team. My colleagues understood that I am an intern and so would always provide help, which made me feel more at ease as well. Aside from the work-related aspect of being valued by my colleagues, they were also very integrated outside of working hours as we had several socials after work to increase the team bond and overall morale.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great support by my peers and manager when completing work as they understood I was completely new to the firm. They run through things ensuring that you understand all the tasks required before you head off and complete it which makes it more reassuring for yourself. My manager would always check up on me time to time to ensure I always had work to do and understood my work, and if I did not understand, he was always easily approachable.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every day I had multiple tasks to perform which made the internship a lot more interesting and worthwhile as it meant I learnt more skills. There was never a dull moment over the internship as every task was new to me, and I enjoyed completing these tasks as I felt as if I have developed a new skill after each job. If no work is assigned, you can always contact resourcing and work will be given to you – so don’t worry!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good level of responsibility and this made me feel important in the team. I was on client site quite a few times and was able to approach clients myself and ask any questions I would need. Also, I was given responsibility to complete finalising a document which would be presented directly to the client – this of course was a huge challenge and I performed well on this task which was noted by my manager.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have yet to implement the skills into my further education at university; however I am more than certain the skills I have learnt will be useful in the future. Organisation and time management are vital in everyday life and this is a big skill I developed from my internship. Also, being able to grasp a bulk of information in a short period of time and break it down to make it easier to understand is something I have developed over my time here. When completing my final project at university, this will be a great asset to have.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In general, the atmosphere is very relaxed and nice at the office. Mostly, people were always willing to help (regardless of whether they were on the same job as you or not), and sometimes there were people who were more stressed and stuck at the desk for hours! However, most of the time the atmosphere is very comfortable and nice and this makes it easier to complete work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set out really well as it made sure we had sufficient time to perform a good number and variety of tasks. The first week of training helped with general IT skills and settling into the systems. Then as the weeks progressed, workload increased and tasks were able to be completed more efficiently as we had the sufficient experience in this due to previous jobs.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot of time and money into us interns as can be told by the high level of training provided. They firm understand we have gone through a very difficult progress to get to where we are now and so are willing to invest that much and I believe it has paid off. I believe I have developed due to all the training and exposure provided by PwC and I will cherish these skills and take it on board with me in the future, and utilise it wherever possible.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within the firm are quite high. If you perform well on the internship and received good feedback overall and have achieved work to a good standard, you are likely to receive an offer for a graduate role. Therefore, I believe this is a great opportunity for anyone looking to work for a large accounting firm as it gets you experience at an early age so when you come back after graduation, you will be able to settle in a lot quicker.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • There was a really good social scene with fellow peers. Socials are a big thing at PwC and this makes everyone feel more integrated and it helps build relationships. I would always go for lunch with my peers who would bring along their peers, which would help me to network further. This was a great opportunity to talk in a more casual environment, helping to create long lasting relationships.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I travelled from home and therefore would not worry about accommodation; however I do know that the cost of living in London is extremely expensive. If you are travelling from far and need accommodation nearby to the office, I would recommend living with other interns as this would save money, and you will also be able to able to create a good relationship with them. Food costs are generally the same as outside of London, so this should not be as much of an issue.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are many bars and pubs near the office where we would go to socialise after work sometimes. The nightlife is good and London is a great place to be to have a good time, but again, the cost is the main issue with going out in London. Also remember – don’t take your laptop with you If you’re going to a bar after work!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were social tournaments such as table tennis to get involved with after work which was fun and interesting. Other activities such as long distance running and PwC events did take place throughout the internship, which I believe is a good way to connect with others, whilst being active! There would be emails sent around to get involved in any opportunities so if you get the chance, try your best to attend these as they are a lot of fun and competitive.
