    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought my placement was a great insight into the culture at PwC and the type of work I would get involved in if I was to work full time. There were a lot of opportunities to work shadow more senior positions, which I really enjoyed, and try different departments if we wanted to., making it very flexible.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • When I completed any work, my colleagues were very grateful and made me feel what I done had actually helped the team. This was good as it made sure I completed all work to a high standard as it would actually influence the business, and showed they valued my time at the firm.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My people manager was extremely helpful and put a lot of time and effort into ensuring I got the most out of my experience at PwC, and that my time here reflected what the firm was actually like to work for. He arranged all work shadowing and gave me guidance if I was having problems.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The start of my internship was very slow and I didn鈥檛 receive much work at all, despite reaching out to all the team to help. This made it very boring. It picked up more in my fourth and fifth week and had some really busy times, but it tended to come in peaks and troughs.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I was given a fair amount of responsibility for my position. This made me feel as if I was valuable to the team. However, all work was thoroughly reviewed by several positions in the team to give positive and constructive feedback. This meant there wasn鈥檛 too much pressure put on myself that made it daunting to go to work.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training won鈥檛 particularly help with my degree as it was very technical, and not relating to any of my modules. However, I think some of the skills I have learnt, in relation to time management and written communication will help in writing my extended essay and assignments at university.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was good. All the team were very friendly and approachable. However, it was fairly quiet as people wanted to complete their work on time. After speaking to other interns I think this definitely differed between departments though.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the residential trip and the introductions were very well organised and structured. Being given a buddy and people manager from the start also meant the introduction to the team and office was too. However, once we were settled in I think there could have been more structure and preparation into the work set for us.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the firm invested a lot into our personal development within the first few weeks through training sessions and networking events to increase our technical skills. My people manager also put a lot of time into this, arranging regular check-up meetings throughout the internship. We also had to set reviews at the start we will review at the end of the internship.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the firm is very appealing as I would be able to achieve a qualification whilst working, in my first 3 years. There is also a lot of flexibility regarding departments and the ability to go on secondments abroad. Working hours are also fairly set, unlike other firms in the financial sector where you would be encouraged to stay very late.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Amongst my team there were a few organised social events. However, I mainly socialised with the other interns in the evenings and at lunch time. This was good as it meant I got an insight into what it was like to work in other departments too. I feel like I would hope the social scene in my team was slightly livelier if I was to work full time though.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was placed in More London so the cost of socialising was very high, particularly as it mainly involved going to bars where drinks were pricey. I lived at home so the actual cost of living was low, but I commuted in and trains were very expensive, taking a large proportion of the money I earnt over the 6 weeks.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was great as I was in central London so there is countless bars and clubs to go to. However, as they are expensive and I wasn鈥檛 living in central London so it meant it was difficult to go to them after work as I had to make sure I got home in time to catch the correct train.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Out of work, my team had an on-going Olympics games. Myself and the other intern got involved in a couple and then had the opportunity to arrange one just before we left. We also had a summer party with the whole of line of service where there were activities at the start and then a bbq and drinks after which was good fun.
