    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A great experience into the industry - I became involved in projects from day one. The work I had to do was explained in detail and was never daunting. Everyone was happy to help out whenever I had any queries. Team are very welcoming and social drinks are good fun.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt more valued than I expected. The stereotypical intern is sat by the printer all day or making tea - every piece of work I did contributed to the team's current project, and they were all appreciative of my efforts. Colleagues would quickly pick up what I was good at and use my skills to help them in different situations.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The 'buddy' system is very helpful. I sat opposite her for the whole internship, and she made herself very available and approachable to me. She was happy to answer questions and there was not a question I felt too stupid asking because of this. I was not patronised by anyone - project briefings were sincere and explained exactly how the work I will be doing will help the team and how it is relevant.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally, I was kept busy for most of everyday of the six weeks. There was never even an hour where I wouldn't have anything to do. The work load was not too heavy, however, and I rarely stayed much later at the end of the day. Most deadlines were relaxed and flexible. Other interns I became friends with also found that they were fairly busy from the start, and no-one was overloaded with work at any point.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A good amount of responsibility - had to keep on top of where we were with every step of a project and update status trackers a few times a day, then send it to the team the next mornings to make sure everyone knew what was happening. I never once felt overwhelmed by responsibility.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It really has prepared me to work for a firm like this. You get plenty of insight into what the graduates do and from the work you do you can see how to make that step up quite clearly. It has given me confidence that I can work in this kind of environment and have intellectual conversations about the type of work the industry does and how it helps. The training was also fantastically useful. It wasn't too intense, and there was a large focus on making you feel comfortable - including social activities.
