The Role
The six week summer internship was thoroughly enjoyable. Don鈥檛 get me wrong there鈥檚 lots of hard work to do and you鈥檙e thrown straight in the deep end; but equally there鈥檚 always someone who鈥檒l help you if you鈥檙e stuck. The most enjoyable thing about the job is the people around you and it didn鈥檛 take long to make friends.
PwC seem to only hire people who fit their culture. As such everyone you meet within the company is very like minded and very easy to talk to. I felt very at home within a week of starting in the office as everyone is easy to say hello to and start a conversation with.
The structure of the internship is such that you鈥檙e constantly getting feedback from your people manager and managers of the jobs you鈥檙e assigned to. As a result you have frequent meetings and easy access to managers ad they鈥檙e always looking to help you improve and make the best of the time you have there.
As an intern PwC treat you just like a first year graduate. After your first week of training you鈥檙e assigned to jobs throughout the entire internship. This can mean that there鈥檚 lots of travel and hard work, but you always have a great supportive team around you. I personally felt that it was hard work, but manageable.
To a certain extent, interns are given quite a lot of responsibility. I was assigned to 3 different jobs during my internship and at each I felt like an integral part of the team. Having said this you鈥檙e never given anything that won鈥檛 be reviewed and you can鈥檛 be helped with by the team around you so I never felt that this responsibility applied any pressure.
I鈥檓 hoping to return to PwC and complete the ACA qualification after my 3rd year of university. The training and experience will be an invaluable head-start and I feel that I鈥檒l certainly be able to show the new graduates I鈥檒l hopefully join a thing or two, despite studying Psychology at university!
The Company
The atmosphere isn鈥檛 massively lively in the Cardiff office where I was based, but it is incredibly friendly. There鈥檚 no one walking around, telling you to get back to work if you want to have a chat with your neighbour or grab a coffee. As long as you鈥檙e work is done on time, the atmosphere is very relaxed and there鈥檚 plenty of opportunity for fun!
PwC have been accepting interns for a long time and there鈥檚 a dedicated 西瓜视频 recruitment team running the show. As such everything runs very smoothly right through from when you get the offer to when you leave. I never felt lost or like nobody had a clue what to do with me, the whole thing was run very smoothly.
The entire first week was dedicated to training the interns. The first 3 days were spent on an estate being trained on the sorts of things we might be tasked with over the course of the internship. The next two days were spent getting you used to the office and introducing you to people, including a meeting with the surprisingly friendly directors. Therefore quite a lot was invested in me in terms of training and development

Based on the people I鈥檝e met and the job itself, I鈥檇 love to come back after my third year. I found the job enjoyable and not too stressful and personally I love the opportunity for travel (of which there is a lot in Assurance). I鈥檝e already made some great friends and I feel that makes things a lot easier if you come back as a graduate.
The Culture
Due to the nature of the hiring process, other interns are extremely likely to be like minded. During the first three days all the interns from offices all over the UK (over 200 interns) were together at a training event. Every evening there was drinks and dinner and you definitely have great opportunities to socialise and get to know your fellow interns. I found these relationships followed through the six weeks of the internship.
I was in the Cardiff office which is a great office if you want the city feel of London at the cost of a small town. I was able to secure 西瓜视频 accommodation over the summer for six weeks with Cardiff University (despite being a 西瓜视频 of a different Uni) for less than 拢500. Bars and socialising are also much much cheaper.
I鈥檓 not much of one for clubbing but there鈥檚 certainly a lot of great bars in Cardiff. So many in fact that no matter what your tastes and interests there鈥檒l be something for you. There鈥檚 probably too much work to be going out every night unless you鈥檙e truly dedicated but me and the other interns aswell as some other colleagues I got to know very well went out every Friday night.
PwC Cardiff do have some social and sports clubs to get involved with but not the variety I would have liked. Apparently in the massive offices such as the London ones there is an abundance of choices but to be honest there鈥檚 not really enough time to get too involved in these things anyway. Having said this people are always up for organising an outing or a drink or meal.
