The Role
Overall I really enjoyed my internship, there were so many opportunities to meet new people and socialise and network. The work was quite interesting and I was always kept so busy that 6 weeks has gone by so quickly! It was great that I was immediately doing the work that I would be if I was offered a graduate job because it gives you a real indication of whether its something you will enjoy.
I felt they treated my equally to other people on the team, I was still invited to debreif events and kept involved in the conversation and given real responsibility within the audit work. I always felt like I was able to contribute towards the team and the work we were doing which was really appreciated by everyone else.
There was always someone available to coach me through any problems I was having or when I was doing a certain piece of work that was new to me which was always really helpful. The buddy system worked really well so there was someone more junior to turn to about smaller issues and concerns and my people manager also check in with me weekly to make sure everything was going smoothly and to give me some guidance on particular questions.
I had a long list of things to be doing every day, and some were of higher priority than others so it wasnt that the list had to be finished but I was never sat waitig for work to be done or ever not contributing towards the team in some way.
I was immediately given real responsibility on testing samples and talking to clients which I think was important to do from the outset as learning on the job is the best way to learn the amount that you have to in such a short period of time.
Accounting knowledge isnt going to be much help towards my chemistry masters but the transferable soft skills of communication and teamwork and even confidence are going to be really helpful for me, not just in degree studies but much further beyond that as well. The training will be so useful for returning as a graduate as I will already have so much experience.
The Company
The office was really relaxed and even when we were approaching deadlines it never felt too stressful because everyone had a team of people to support them. The office socials were a great opportunity to meet new people and network with managers and seniors who I hadnt previously had the chance to work with. Generally everyone was very friendly and sociable which made the office a really comfortable place to be.
The firm definitely invested in the interns a lot more than I had expected, with a three day residential induction at the start of our internship. There was always someone available to help you and so many people you were there for coaching which really felt like they were invested in your success and wanted you to be successful.
Company Parties/Events
The internship is such a good opportunity to be offered a job after you graduate and I am really interested in being able to progress my career within PwC, by talking to managers and senior associates it was so interesting to see how their role has changed since they first started. And time spent shadowing partners was so useful since their job roles are even further from where they started.
The Culture
All the interns met up most fridays for drinks and the office has socials on the last friday of every month which was such good fun and a great way to meet people that you hadnt been directly working with. Everyone in the teams are sociable and of a similar age so it makes it a really enjoyableplace to be working.
