    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed working at PwC, mostly due to the great people I was working with and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the office. I was given real responsibility from day one, and was mking real contributions to the engagements I was working on. There was also a very notable effort to include the interns in the extra things going on in the office, like cricket, football and office drinks. I think one of the most underrated things about working here is the lack of any hierarchy. People of all levels of seniority were happy to help me, and I would genuinely not be able to tell how senior someone was unless I asked.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone I worked with, and even around, was very helpful. Nobody was ever too busy to answer my questions and queries, and if they were I was always pointed in the direction of somebody who could help. The guidance I received was always thorough, regardless of which job I was on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My availability varied greatly from day to day, depending on what job I was booked on. When I was booked on a bigger job I generally had more work to do and contributed more to the engagement. I much preferred this to smaller jobs or doing odd tasks, as I felt I had responsibilities and made real contributions while never feeling overworked. There were times when I was not booked to any job and so had to be pro-active in finding work (which were usually odd-jobs or more menial tasks). I put this down to the time of year, as most engagements were coming towards the completion/review stage.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again, this varied with the job I was booked on. Some teams trusted me to take files from a template through to completion and to prepare them for review. I would say on these jobs I was given a relatively large amount of responsibility as I was making very real contributions to the engagements. Despite this, I never felt like I was "thrown in the deep end" as the coaching I received was always thorough and my team members were very accommodating.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed and I was working mainly in an area that felt very similar to university library, with big communal tables and booths. This was nice as it allowed me to meet new people every day, and ask questions whenever without causing much fuss, Of course there were also more traditional desks, and quiet areas to work in if that suited. We also had office drinks at the end of each month, which was a great opportunity to socialise with new and more senior members of staff.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised from my point of view. I was very impressed at how well planned and structured the initial residential induction was, and how I was booked on jobs days in advance so I could get in touch with the relevant people. There were a few days however, when there was a lack of work and I was not booked to any job. On these occasions I had to be pro-active and find work from previous jobs or people around me. I would say I had to do this maybe 5 days out of the 6 weeks, and found work generally within an hour. I think this very much depends on the office and time of year you're working.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be more than happy to work for PwC as a graduate, and continuing on from the internship is greatly encouraged by the firm. There is a very clear and transparent career path here, with a lot of room for progress. There are also opportunities to do international secondments (not immediately available to grads) which I personally find appealing.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a pretty good social scene here. Every day the interns met for lunch, or were invited eat with the team. It was pretty easy to stay in contact with each other (Whatsapp group chat obviously helped...) and we made an effort to go for drinks and a meal a couple of times. On top of that, there were office drinks and social events most weekends. If you wanted to go out, then colleagues would always make an effort to include you.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was working just outside of London, so the prices were similar but slightly cheaper. Food was reasonably priced from the office canteen, and there were loads of supermarkets nearby too. I was living at home, so cannot comment on rent or housing prices. Travel was as expected - I got a short train to work every day which is obviously slightly more expensive at peak times.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
