The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at PWC, I found from the start I was given a meaningful role and tasks to complete. This was something I was not expecting straight away as I was expecting a lot of training to be completing rather than be talking to the client and solving issues. I was assigned a coach for each task I completed, showing that I had support throughout the jobs. I also enjoyed the people who were at PWC as the office were all around my age so I was able to integrate well and get involved with one of the peer groups. This meant that when I worked within the office I was able to speek to people so that I felt part of the office and was not isolated or left out on my own.
I felt valued by my colleagues in many ways. First of all professionally as during jobs I would be asked my opinion and be asked upon to help solve the issues such as going to talk to the client. Many occasions I spoke to clients independently - I felt this showed that my colleagues trusted me with the task. Also I felt valued as a part of the firm, being invited to attend social events and office events to help become involved.
I was given support throughout my internship. This ranged from my people manager to members in the team. I constantly could get support on the job from team members who would guide me how to complete the tasks that I had. My buddy was there to aid me through the normal day to day queries with my people manager helping me sort out getting involved in shadowing etc.
I was especially busy during my internship, my ususual working hours were approximately 8.30-6. I was never sat with work not to be done - which I feel is massively important for an internship as you want to learn as much as possible in a short amount of time for it to be rewarding. I did sometimes have to complete a little bit of work at home, this was not overly difficult and was mainly because I wanted to try and get finished what I had started that day rather than having to come back to it the next day, as I personally prefer to get tasks started and start a fresh one the day after. However, this was not forced onto me at all and was mainly down to my personal preference.
I was given a lot of responsibility for my tasks that I was completing, this could be from me following up on a clients reply or actually chasing the client for information that we actually needed in order to get to the next stage of the job. This was done independently on most occasions unless I felt that I needed the support of the team.
This has helped me develop some skills which I feel will become helpful throughout my life after my degree such as being able to manage my time better. In terms of training, I feel that the best training to assist me beyond this job will be the client exposure I had, as I now understand how to address clients better and how to hold professional relationships with them.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. A lot of people would talk to you because they are all relatively young, because I was in a relatively small office I found a lot of people would make the effort to chat with me in the morning etc whilst having a coffee so you never really feel isolated.
The internship was very organised. I found out who my buddy was well in advance of before I joined so that meant I was able to ask all those questions you want to ask in order to settle the nerves before you join. Also there was a very good set up in terms of what jobs I would be doing, I knew before I joined who my clients were so that I knew if I was working away etc.
I feel the company invested a lot in training me. As on each job there was an extensive effort to coach you through your tasks and a big part of PWC is the coaching aspect. Also we had a week of training before joining so that again you got to know the basics before you actually joined the firm. Also people are willing to give you there advice from their experiences and help you with the everyday tasks.
The future prospects are massive. You can start in a line of service and an office and then can move if you request it. I know that a lot of people move lines of services quite commonly such as Assurance to Tax but im not sure if a movement in office's is as common. Theres also the chance to be able to work abroad too which I think is good.
The Culture
There was a good social scene whilst I was at pwc, with social events occuring such as a sports day where we played against leeds and hull. Also I have been on nights out with some of the office, I feel that the office is social itself like a I said earlier, so its not needed to be a 'night-out' kind of place.
The cost of living I cannot comment on because I lived at home, however the social side of it was very cheap! So like meals and drinks are a lot cheaper than if you was in London completing your internship so theres a bit more opportunity to enjoy yourself.

There were a lot of opportunities in the short amount of time that I on the internship. Ranging from nights out, to casual drinks, pool and pizza night and even an annual dinner. I know that the office is also planning more for the other intake such as BBQ's and an away day to a local racecourse.
