The Role
I really enjoyed the internship. There have definitely been difficult moments where I haven't enjoyed what I've been doing because it has been difficult, but the sense of achievement at the end in such situations has always been worth it. I enjoyed that we got a great variety of work to do and therefore got to see a true representation of the firm and the job.
I felt genuinely valued by my collegues and felt that they had really thought out the jobs in which I could be of the most value. I didn't have to do any "intern" tasks such as making coffee, buying lunch etc. and was given real jobs immediately. Although in some situations this was hard, it definitely made the whole experience a lot more worthwhile.
Each week I worked on a different job, and with each job I had a manager who gave me support whenever I needed it on the specific job, but I also felt comfortable to ask them any other sort of questions. On top of this I was paired with a buddy as soon as I joined and given a people manager who managed my progress. Both were totally approachable and extremely helpful.
I always had things to do, and if I didn't I always knew who I could go to to give me a job. However I never felt overwhelmed by work and I felt that if I had I would easily have been able to go to the engagement leader and they would have been understanding.
I was given enough responsiblity that I felt proud of the work that I had done, and I often had to go out and research on my own and try and figure out exactly what was expected of me, but again, I always felt that I was able to go to the engagement leader and they would confirm that I was taking the right direction.
We had a weeks training at the beginning of the intership which was all fairly job specific so will certainly help me if I continue with accountancy! On top of this I received a lot of training with excel and computer systems which will help in every sphere of life and I also developed many transferable skills that will be relevant both at university and in any working world.
The Company
There was a very busy and active atmosphere that was also friendly. The desk system was one in which you booked a different desk within your group every day, which meant that I got to meet lots of different people. It was sociable but most importantly hard working.
The internship was extremely well organised. We spent the first three days staying at a hotel with all of the interns working in all the offices across the country. During this time we got an introduction to the internship, training, and very importantly the chance to meet people. For the remaining two days of the first week we were in our local office completing more specific training. This was a great opportunity to get to know the other interns that we would be working with. From the second week onwards we were placed on diffeent jobs, which changed weekly.
I felt that the company invested in me greatly. The training was very thorough and we were very well looked after throughout, especially during the first few days when we were staying at the hotel. Once I had started working my training continued. On each job I was given an in charge, who would coach me through every job that I needed to do and I always felt able to go to them for advice and support.

I am yet to find out whether I will be offered a job with the firm, but if I were the employement prospects are very appealing. During the intenship I also got the opportunity to find out about lots of other service lines.
The Culture
At the beginning, when all of the interns wee doing training together there was a very good social scene. Unfortunately once we started working on our individual jobs it was harder to maintain because we wouldn't regularly be working with other interns, and because it was a big office it was difficult to keep up with people. I would have really appreciated a couple of intern social events organised a bit later on during the internship.
I was working in central London therefore the cost of living and socialising was high, however there were always opporunities to socialise without necessarily spending lots of money once I had figured it out a bit! There was also not a pressure within the office to go out for lunch etc.
I didn't really experience the nightlife in the area that I worked.
There were plenty of opporunities to get involved in activities outside of work. When we joined we were put in social groups, and we were informed of all of the social events taking place within them by emails. These included drinks etc but also talks and meetings in other offices and departments. Within the wider group that I worked in there were also opportunitites to get involved, for example I was there for the AGM which involved a sports day and barbeque!
