The Role
I really enjoyed my placement and felt the 6 weeks I was there flew by! An important part for me was that I felt extremely comfortable in the office and everyone was very friendly towards me. It was a good environment to be in and I looked forward to going to work in the morning. Everyone was also very sociable with lots of different events organised for you to go along too! I also enjoyed the work I was doing. It gave me a very good insight into what I would be doing down my chosen career path and also a basic understanding into how a business works. I was always given a lot of help and support whilst I was working and never felt completely out of my depth.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and was treated as part of the team. This came into both the office and social events. In the office I was treated with the same respect as all of my other colleagues despite just being an intern and I never felt the work I was doing was less important than anyone else鈥檚. During my placement I was made to feel very welcome and was included in all social events organised by the office and individual events organised by my team. I was even asked to organise a team lunch and asked to help organise a social event for the entire office. I never once felt like an outsider.
I was given a lot of support and guidance throughout my internship. I was encouraged to ask a lot of questions about the work I was doing to ensure I understood fully what was being asked of me. Everyone was more than happy to help when I was confused and I was never left by myself or expected to know what I was doing first time round. As part of my internship I was also given a substantial amount of training. This was given to us by various, more senior members of staff. They were very welcoming and more than happy to answer any questions we had about work, the office and social events regardless of how silly or small the questions seemed!
Varied with the job. The first job I was on I was busy - not too busy but never without anything to do. Whereas the second job I was on I was quite quiet for a few of the days but you just have to keep asking for more things to do!
A lot more responsibility than I originally thought I would be given. I would be preparing work for the client by myself and it would therefore have my name on it. It would be my responsibility to check everything and ensure all data was correct before sending my work on. However the work would always be reviewed by someone more senior!
The skills I developed will not help me for my degree unfortunately as I am studying something completely unrelated to Accounting. However I do feel I have learnt more personal skills that will help me in university such as time management and more confidence when approaching someone for help when I鈥檓 confused. I feel I have gained skills which will help me when I leave university. Technical skills such as excel, IT skills and various computer programmes which I was working with. I have also learnt personal skills in that I now have a feel of how it is to be working in a business environment and how to work closely with clients. I have also gained interview skills from the overall experience.
The Company
There was often a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere in the office. Majority of my colleagues were very relaxed but there was always a few who were very busy and quite stressed out but it was very easy to read the situation and know who to approach when you needed assistance. Overall though a very good atmosphere to be working in. However, I was there over the companies quietest time.
Overall very well organised. The training we recieved was very well thought out and very relevant to what we would be doing. The individual jobs I was on varied. The first job I was on was very organised and always had something for me to do, whereas the second job I was on was slightly less organised and I was sometimes without anything to do.
Alot - we were given a full week of training and were given various training tasks to do throughout the 6 weeks.

The Culture
Yes - there was quite a large group of us. Everyone was very sociable and we got on very well. We would often go for dinner or drinks after work and went on a few nights out over the 6 weeks! Everyone was always keen to take part and make an effort to get to know one another.
Overall fairly cheap I would say. Living costs are dependant on how close to the centre you want to stay, however the cost of public transport is fairly low and runs very frequently so if you are wanting to save money I would reccomend staying slightly further out. Cost of socialising is also very dependant on where you go but I would say overall fairly cheap. There are expensive places to go for a drink but equally there are some very cheap places!
Yes we were given a lot of opportunites to get involved in stuff inside and outwith work. There were various sports teams to get involved in such as hockey, football and running clubs. We were also given the opportunity to sign up to different oragnisations within the company, such as if we wanted to get invloved with charity work or get invloved in helping organise events for the company. There was also plenty of opportunities to get involved in social activites after work, with a big social event being held every 4 weeks for people to come along to and have a few drinks.
