The Role
I really enjoyed the internship. From the very beginning the structure of the internship was great and geared towards you getting the best you possibly could out of it. I was given a variety of work and worked for lots of different people giving me an opportunity to network with a lot of colleagues. The internship as well was really geared towards getting the most out of the experience and there was a huge amount of support from the company. It was really lovely getting to know the other interns and the social aspect of the internship was great from the get go.
I really felt valued by the people I worked with during the internship and I felt like the tasks I was given and the input I had was really valuable and contributed significantly to the team I was working within. Unlike other internships I was never asked to make a cup of tea or do photocopying, as instead the work we were expected and given to do was worthwhile and contributed towards the work product. This really meant I felt like I got a huge amount out of the internship as I was really stuck in with the work and got to experience was working for PwC long term would be like rather than ‘just being an intern’.
The support of the internship programme and the company as a whole was exceptional. Initially the residential induction really supported my understanding of the role and gave me the skills I would need for the first day on the job whilst also allowing me to meet the other interns so that the first day in the office was a little less daunting. I was also given a buddy, a first year graduate, to support me through the internship as they understood exactly what I was going through. Having a buddy was great as it meant that I was able to ask any questions I had without embarrassment and really helped me settle into the office. I also had a People Manager who was responsible for my welfare during the internship. I initially met with my people manager to have a chat and talk through any concerns or questions I had, we also compiled some objectives for my internship which was great to give me focus. I met with my People Manager halfway through the internship too to review feedback I had received from my work and also talk through how I was and how I felt it was going. This support was great in helping me make the most out of my internship. I also expressed to my People Manager an interest in particular areas and she was able to schedule shadowing and work in areas I was interested in which was great support to facilitate me getting the most out of the 6 weeks. Everyone I worked with was so friendly and really accommodating when I didn’t understand or needed to ask questions.
On a day to day basis I was given tasks that would challenge me and keep me busy for the day. If I ever ran out of work, more was always found for me which was great as it meant I was rarely sat around with nothing to do and gave me huge amounts of experience. Saying this however I didn’t feel like I was too busy and there weren’t large amounts of pressure on me to complete tasks in a small timeframe or work past scheduled hours.
During my internship I feel like I was given a huge amount of responsibility for my level. Everybody I worked with treated me like a valued member of the team and responsibilities were given accordingly. I never was asked to do menial jobs or treated like ‘just an intern’. I was in a client facing position from the first week on the internship and was tasked with talking to clients and producing work that would contribute towards the audit product. During my internship I was also given the opportunity to prepare and ask questions to the Executive Management Team of a large company during interviews and this was a fantastic experience with a lot of responsibility. I always however felt supported in the responsibility I was given and felt valued as a result.
Luckily for me I actually study accounting at university so the skills I learnt during my internship will be directly applicable to my degree. This has given me an understanding of the knowledge developed during my degree and I feel I will definitely be able to apply it going back into my 3rd Year. The confidence I gained in the role will also be invaluable for me going forwards. The ability to network and get to know people will really contribute towards my future success. I also hope to take up a graduate role with PwC following my internship and really expect that the skills and foundation built during my internship will really help me going into a permanent role.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very relaxed. Everyone was extremely friendly and sitting around the office in a different desk everyday meant you got to meet and talk to new people. It wsas really lovely to be invited for lunch with different teams when in the office and everyone made sure you felt welcome. The atmosphere was really friendly and really supportive making sure that I could ask anyone for help or a question without fear.
The internship programme was absolutely fantastic. The whole thing was expertly organised. A residential induction to beginning the internship, followed by a two day office induction really prepared you for client work. The work scheduled was varied to give me experience in different areas on different clients and the support functions in place with the Buddy and People Manager system was excellent in structuring the programme to make sure I got the best out of it. There was an internship initiative with a forum of collaborative ideas from fellow interns which allowed for discussion. The internship programme is integrated within the fabric of the company and everyone is friendly and really receptive to interns.
The first week of the internship was purely devoted to training and development to make sue you’re fully prepared with the residential and office inductions. Throughout the internship the setting and reviewing of objectives ensured that I was developing professionally and personally and that I would gain the best experience possible. Training and development is really high on the agenda so you never feel unprepared for what is being asked of you.

Future prospects with PwC are extremely appealing. I can really see myself working for PwC after my degree in a graduate role as I enjoy the job but mainly because the people and the company are fantastic. The whole company and ethos is geared towards a great atmosphere and creating a friendly working culture and this really works. The opportunity to become fully ACA qualified, whilst being supported and having a great working environment makes a graduate role really viable and appealing option.
The Culture
There were quite a few perks to the internship, the paid for residential induction was a great way into the company and it was lovely meeting all the other interns. When in the office for residential induction, departments in the office did informal beer and pizza lunches to get to know the interns. The social side of the internship was great, we got involved in after work drinks on a Friday, we also got to go to watch the cricket and take part in the office sports day. All of these were paid for by PwC, were great fun and really made me feel welcome and part of the team. There was a great social environment. All of the other interns were lovely and it was great to all be together and we made really good friend. The rest of the office was also really friendly and I felt really welcomed. From the get go being invited to all the office social events, after work drinks, cricket and sports day. The social culture of the office was great and the social committee work really hard to but on lots of events and drinks to take part in.
The cost of living and socialising in the area wasn’t particularly high at all. I commuted from my university house to save on accommodation but a lot of the social activities and all expenses for client travel etc were all covered and aid for by PwC which meant that you could participate and get involved quite cheaply.
The nightlife in the area I worked was great. Round the office there were a couple of bars and as a major city centre the amenities, restruants and clubs are all in abundance. The great thing about the office was there was loads of places really close by that you could head to straight from work
As I’ve said previously there were a huge range of opportunities to get involved outside work, social events at various different things were all available to interns. Wider than this there were people from the office that went on a hockey tour to Barcelona during my internship and there are huge amounts of opportunity to get involved in whatever you’re interested in.
