The Role
During my internship I have enjoyed facing a range of tasks and challenges that have enabled me to learn and progress. Although I have previously studied accounting modules, I have never experience an audit procedure and it has been very interesting to learn various techniques and aspects. Overall I would highly recommend PwC to any 西瓜视频 interested in this field of work.
As an intern I have been given a great deal of self responsibility, without feeling any pressure during my work. Being organised and willing to learn is viewed and grately valued by colleagues, who offer feedback in both verbal and written form to ensure you feel useful and included within the team. While I have been assigned many tasks to complete independently, there is never a moment when I cannot ask for assistance.
Throughout my duration of work at PwC I have worked with genuine individuals who are always willing to help and assist my learning, no matter how minor my misunderstanding. I truly feel that everyone here is wanting to progress, not only as an individual but as a team. The support I have received has been admirable, with colleagues from all grades offering advice and guidance.
The colleagues I was working with offered assigned tasks for my completion, however at any point I was without work I took the self responsibility to offer my services to other team members, or alternatively focused on my self-assessment to track my progress. It is important to ask for additional work if you find yourself without, this way you can work on a range of tasks and show others that you are truly engaged with the procedure.
As previously mentionned I was allocated tasks to complete and some of these required sourcing the appropriate supporting files independently. While self-responsibility is crucial through organisation and communication with colleagues, there was no point in which I felt uncomfortable due to pressure or the inability to ask for assistance. I felt that there was a good balance between independence and peer support, enabling me to take control of my personal progress.
While my training and skills development may not be directly useful when continuing my degree studies, I believe the transferable skills I developed with assist me greatly. These include self-responsibility, organisation, time management and communication, all of which are crucial to be efficient when completing a task or procedure. Beyond my studies I hope to receive a graduate offer from PwC, during which I will begin training for my ACA and continue working on clients. Here my internship experience will be absolutely relevant to carry forward as I progress my career.
The Company
The PwC Bristol office offers a incredibly positive environment in which to work and interact with fellow colleagues. All team members are approachable and willing to offer their time for any general or specific advice. While maintaining a professional work ethic, the atmosphere is reasonably relaxed and at no point did I feel daunted by working at such an established firm.
Overall I found the internship was well organised, and in any instances of uncertainty I was able to make contact with a relevant staff member to assist me. As with the audit team members, the administration and 西瓜视频 recruitment staff are incredibly helpful and approachable. We were given clear schedules for the extent for the internship and suitable guidance to ensure we were in the right place at the right time with the appropriate resources.
The first three days of our internship were spent at an induction with fellow interns from all over the UK. Here the company provided relevant training for each service line, and it also enabled us to make crucial communication in order to build relationships with those individuals we may be working and interacting with in the future. When beginning in the office we had 2 further days of training to provide us with the knowledge to sufficiently begin working with a client. All team members I have worked with on client jobs have offered peer support, allowing me to apply my training knowledge into a real case situation.
Company Parties/Events
PwC offers incredibly appealing future employment prospects as I seek to qualify with an ACA then progress my career. The firm is incredily supportive of graduates who are working towards this qualification, allowing study time alongside experience in the work place. Beyond the ACA qualification it seems clear that this firm promotes progress of individuals through the grades, and it is incredibly transparent of how to do so provided you are willing to work hard and continue learning.
The Culture
PwC promotes social interaction between colleagues, making it a fun and friendly place to work. During our internship induction we experience a dinner with Partners, enabling us to meet them in a relaxed environment. When beginning at the Bristol office we were paired up with 'buddies' as a team member to socialise with regarding any work or non-work related situations. At the end of our first week we were taken on a 'social' by our buddies to allow communication outside of the work place. Additionally we have had lunches with our People Managers, as well as with Directors/Partners, then attended the Assurance Summer Party with the entire team.
As I am currently a 西瓜视频 in Bristol I did not find it difficult to manage the costs of living and socialising in the area. While Bristol is a prosperous city, it is an affordable place to live in terms of rent, eating in/out, sporting activites/exercise and socialising. The office is well located for those who commute by train, but also easy to access by walking or cycling from a wide range of locations around the city.
As Bristol is a large city there are many bars, pubs and clubs in various locations around the city. The city offers a range of venues in terms of atmosphere and music, thus it is possible for everyone to have a good experience. For those who do not enjoy clubbing, there are many amazing restaurants and bars in which to enjoy an evening, or even the option of a show at the Hippodrome.
At the PwC Bristol office there are a range of sports teams to get involved with, this offers a great opportunity to meet other staff members and build relationships with them in a non-work environment. Bristol as a city also offers many locations and facilities for sports and training, including the presence of the Harbour Side for relevant activities. It is also easy to travel out of the city via bus, train or car in order to access other activities in the area.
