The Role
The team I worked with were really nice. The grads are really friendly and want to get you involved in things.
Most people really value your help and contribution with even the smallest of tasks. Not very much interaction with Directors/Partners.
Your buddy and people manager are really supportive. They do their best to get you involved in the tasks you have an interest in.
It varied. Some days were very quiet. Other days were busy. If you don't mind doing admin work, there is always something to do. You are given responsiblity for managing your own workload so it's up to you to get work from your teams and let people know when you have capacity.
I think this varied for different interns. I was given quite a bit of autonomy in my work. I had already interned in the tax department of another firm and so I was given a little bit more responsbility. I felt that the people I worked with really trusted my capability.
Time management is the main skill I will take away from the itnernship. As you are left to manage your own workload and meet deadlines it's really up to you to balance everything. That said, most of my work was not deadline orietnated becuase of the nature of my deaprtment. It was more "as soon as you can" than a finite deadliene.
The Company
Very chilled. Hot desk policy. Fresh fruit every morning. Flexible working. Lack of social events compared to other departments. The dress code was a smart casual style. Casual Friday meant jeans and t-shirts. The extent of casual Friday depends on your team. People are friendly, particularly the grads and higher apprentices.
Residetial induction was fun. We had a street party oen night which was brilliant. On the last night we had a partner dinner, there was no partner at our table and we never had one PwC employee come to our table all night. Food was great and we had good fun among ourselves. Very little communication with the SIP Team after residential induction. Was told we would get paid weekly before strating the internship but actually got paid monthly. Very few firm organised social events for interns.
We had a whole week fo training. Residential training very beneficial and gives you good technical skills. We weren't in our local office for our local office induction. All London tax interns were together at external venue. Was great chance to get to know the interns in the other London offices as I was in a smaller London office.

As PwC is a big organisation, the expectation is that some summer interns will be offered graduate places on the back of the internship. You continuously collect feedback from colleagues throughout the internship via an online portal. You then discuss this feedback with your people manager, This feedback is essentially what forms the basis for whether or not you receive a job offer.
The Culture
Interns organised own drinks after work. No firm social events while there. One evening networking with US interns which was fun but other than that nothing. I know some interns were there for their departments summer party but our department had already had theirs. Some interns got taken out for lunch by their departments.
Thankfully lived with family, otherwise would have been expensive. Great transport links to London Bridge. Some quirky bars around, always packed though. Expensive to socialise as expected in London. Lots of things to see and do in the evenings and at the weekends. I would recommend travelling at the weekend.
There are plenty of bars around all of the London offices. Club wise, you would have to go a little further away but only a few tube stops. If you haven't done the tourist attractions in London, they are ideal activities in the evenings. The London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeons are all within easy reach.
Not really. The PwC Games was on, the first weekend we started. We were sent information about it. Apart from that there weren't any activities to get invovled in. I think because I was in a smaller office, there weren't as mamy opportunities as there may have been in the larger offices.
