The Role
I enjoyed the internship a lot, I felt really useful and had a lot to do, and it felt like a proper glimpse into what a career at pwc would be like. I had a lot of fun meeting and maintaining relationships with the other interns, however a few more social events organised by the internship team could have really brought everyone together!
I felt very valued - at first I felt completely thrown in at the deep end but it actually worked as it gave me confidence in my work. We formed good relationships and not only would I love to work with them again, I am sure they would also like me back on their team.
To some extent - I had to use my initiative a lot with every problem but that was a good thing. I made sure to properly thing about any questions I had and tried to formulate some kind of solution before checking with someone in my team that I was heading in the right direction.
Mostly very busy, I wasn't finishing until 9pm some days! I never had a moment without a job to do which was actually relieving for me. I was worried that I’d feel obsolete during this internship but it’s been completely the opposite, I feel very useful and like a proper team member.
Lots, I was even alone with the client a lot, checking samples and asking questions. I did lots of important work and I know that I made a difference. I was sending emails to the client without needing them to be reviewed by my team, and it’s little things like that, that give you confidence.
My final year at university is a year in management and these skills will help there – we even have an accounting module. Of course they will also help in my career because this is the type of job I would like to pursue. I have gained a great experience and I am proud of the work I have done.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very friendly but also hard working. The desk areas were generally quiet, but the breakout areas were more lively and the canteen was very fun to be in and it was clear that although everyone was working hard, they were still relaxed and able to enjoy themselves
It was well organised for me, my retain was set up with work when I arrived and I have been on a client ever since. However, I know that some team members have been less fortunate and haven't had a steady line of work, so it seems to vary for each person. This said, my experience has been great and it seems to depend on which team you are in rather than the organisation of the overall internship.
The first week was all training and induction and I felt like it was a good chance to meet people, I didn't learn that much that would actually help me on the job. I learned the most once with my team and actually working through EGAs and meeting the client etc, so I would say that my team invested in me but not necessarily the company.
Future employment prospects are appealing, I've met people I really like and the work has been interesting.
The Culture
To some extent, though I think more organised events would have made the placement a bit more fun in terms of the social aspect. A few of us organised some drinks but it's hard to know everyone to invite as most people's names we don't know etc or even know which office they're in.
Lunch was expensive in the office canteen, and because I was getting home so late some days I didn't have time to make myself a lunch for the next day. I already lived in London for uni but it's still incredibly expensive, and travel alone is about £5/6 a day which is a lot of money to lose!
Went out for drinks a couple of times after work but didn't go out.
No, not really
