The Role
I have really enjoyed my time here. The variety of work I've taken part in has been great, and everyone has been very helpful and welcoming.
I've been treated like I'm part of the team since the moment I arrived. Everyone has been willing to help and get me involved with work.
The people manager system is great, I've received just the right amount of support and guidance whilst still given the chance to be independent.
Sometimes I've had work coming in from several different people, which was great as I had multiple deadlines to meet and it made the days fly by. Sometimes there's less going on but I've never really struggled to find work.
A fair amount, multiple times I was given work to do that would impact on a client meeting or I'd be writing letters to clients, sometimes I would have liked more though.
I've definitely learned a lot, and I think it will help me in my final year at university and beyond towards professional exams and life at work.
The Company
The general atmosphere was great. It was a lot more relaxed than I had expected, and this meant I was able to feel relaxed and comfortable from an early stage. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, always willing to help and get me involved in work. Everyone understands the position you're in so are more than happy to help.
The organisation of the work placement was brilliant, I was sent a spreadsheet with a plan for my internship. This included what departments I was working in and when, who I'd be working with, and what jobs I'd be working on. It wasn't too rigid though, there was plenty of room for manoeuvre if something came up or I wanted some more flexibility.
The firm invested in us a lot in terms of inductions. These included teaching about the firm in general, our lines of service, and our local offices as well. Most of the learning took place on the job, however thee was also opportunities for learning through online resources such as e-learns.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I do not know if I will receive an offer or not as of yet, however I thoroughly hope I do. There are lots of opportunities for development and progression within the company, as well as movement around the company. This includes geographical movement as well as across lines of service should you wish to change.
The Culture
Yes, I've been able to spend plenty of time with other interns both in and out of the office. We've spent time together organising an event for all the staff as well as taking part in a project to help change the way the business operates. We have also spent time outside of the office going for dinner, drinks etc.
I already lived in Edinburgh so this is a bit tricky for me to answer. Edinburgh in general is a fairly expensive city, however there are definitely ways to live and go out on the cheap. There are plenty of areas with cheap pubs or clubs to go to, and it's definitely possible to live on the cheap.
The nightlife in Edinburgh is pretty good. There are lots of pubs and clubs around town youcan go to, ranging fom expensive to dead cheap. All the other interns and lots of other people around the office are up for a laugh, so it's easy to have a good night out.
Yes, there is lots going on outside of the office. The social scene is great and everyone is keen to get you involved. I have gone out for dinner and drinks with my colleagues, as well as playing football for the company team, and we are all going to a big company event at the end of our internship.
