    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at PwC! I've been working in Data Assurance and through this internship I have found that this is a career I would love to pursue. The people at the firm have all been very friendly and helpful, which made my time at PwC even more enjoyable. I will be sad to leave!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. From the second week I was being given chargeable, client work to do that benefitted the team and the firm. I was given positive feedback on all my engagements and I always felt appeciated for the work I was doing. I built strong relationships with many of the people on my team and throughout the office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support at PwC is overwhelming. I was given a personal People Manager who was responsible for my pastoral care, with whom I had regular meetings and catch ups with. He was very supportive. As well as this, whoever I was doing work for was always available to help me or provide guidance when I needed it and I never felt like I couldn't ask questions. I recieved numerous emails from people letting me know that I could go talk to them if I had any problems.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I had plenty of work to be getting on with. However, for Data Assurance, the summer is a quiet time, so there was generally not a lot of work going around - for anyone, not just me. So there were times when there was not much chargeable work to do. Having said this, my supervisors were more than happy for me to use this time to play around on some of the new softwares and watch some tutorials and genereally just teach myself some cool stuff!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of repsonsibility. I was doing the same level of work that the Associates (graduate joiners) would do, and I had less and less guidance as I went though the weeks (through my own choice to work independtly). However there is a system in place at PwC whereby all work undertaken by lower grade employees is reviewed by a senior member of the firm befoe being 'sent off', to ensure there are no vital errors. So although I was given a lot of repsonsbility with the work I was doing, I did not feel too pressured to get everyting perfect.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learn an unbelievable amount of transferable skills during my time at PwC. Firstly, the technical abilities I have learnt will really aid me with my degree studies and personal projects. I have been exposed to loads of new tools and software that I now feel fairly competent in. As well as this, I have also learnt a lot of the business world and how professional services firms work. This is invaluable experience that I was carry forward into later life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmopshere in the office was relaxed yet professional. It really feels like PwC trust you to manage your own time, your own breaks and your own work. Theres light, friendly discussion always occurring round the office and you aren't told off for talking and having a joke! Theres a clear desk policy, so you can sit wherever you want which is nice because you can mix with different people. Whilst there is technically a grade hierachy, it doesn't feel like it. The Managers and Senior Managers integrate with the rest of the team and are as friendly as anyone. There is also free tea and coffee, and free fruit available in the office every day.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • PwC is such a huge company so naturally the internship was very well organised. They have a whole summer internship program, which involves things such as a 3 day residential induction and training programme in your first week, as well as regular intern meet ups. I personally had a few technical issues that took longer than they should have to be resolved, but the summer internship programme leaders were good at getting onto the right people about it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PwC have invested a lot in me as a summer intern. As previously mentioned, I was provided with a 3 day residential induction and trainig program (free hotel, free food and drinks and free training sessions), which provided me with all the necessary technical information I needed to know before starting, as well as general useful information about the firm. Throughout my placement I also had regular meetings with my People Manager who was always asking if there were any particular things I was keen to get involved with or learn, and PwC made a strong effort to provide me with these opporunities, in order to help me develop my skills and abilities.

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have enjoyed my internship so much that I would now like to pursue a career with PwC and I am hoping to secure a graduate job with them. The firm seems to really value its employees and offers many perks. The rate of summer internships that get offered a graudate job is 97%, so prospects are pretty good! Apparently it is harder to get the internship than it is to get a graduate job (applying first time), since you go through exactly the same recruitment process but more people apply per place for the summer intenrship.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a really strong social scene among the summer interns. As mentioned previously, the residential iductions had all 250+ interns there from across the UK which provided a great opportunity to network and socialise. As well as this, we had our local office induction at the end of that first week, which provided further opportunity to get to know the interns that would be working in the same office as you. As a result, we had a WhatsApp group chat and arranged regular meet ups, such as going for lunch together.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was working in Leeds, but I stayed at home there. Leeds is a fantastic city though which lots to do. Some of the other interns here stayed in affordable hotels, and the office is right in the city centre so is close to a range of affordable accomodations as well as social outlets. With Leeds being in the North, is naturally pretty cheap, especially if you're used to London prices! If you work full time at PwC you get given a work phone that comes with O2 Priorities which always has great lunch offers on (such as meal deals for 拢1).

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Leeds is fantastic, and it's definitely not unheard of for PwC to provide a bar tab!! There's a range of places to go for all music tastes, and there are also some really nice bars around the office that people like to go to after work, especially on a Friday.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • PwC actually organises it's own social groups within firm (named after colours). Each intern is assigned to a social group when they join and can subsequently parktake in all of the social events. Some of the events that were offered to me/I took part in during my placement were: Gin Tasting Masterclass, Fish & Chips Quiz Night, Drinks in Town, Staff Sports Day, Pizza & Beer Meeting, Cricket Matches.
