The Role
I did enjoy the experience quite a lot. The best parts were: - the opportunity to meet new people and build my network over the induction week. - the opportunity to undertake a wide range of real work over the 5 weeks in the office. The less good parts of the experience were: - it will always be the lot of an intern to do some of the more menial tasks around the office (billing etc.) and I found doing this quite dull.
Yes. I was lucky enough to be working in quite a small team and there always seemed to be more work than people to do it over the holiday period. I also felt valued in that I took some of the more menial work off the plates of some of the more junior members of the team which I think was appreciated.
My people manager was absolutely excellent for overall guidance and I always felt better and more focuses for having had a meeting with him. My welcome lunch with him in the first week was also really helpful in settling my initial anxieties. My buddy was also really helpful in helping with the day to day things, particular at the beginning of the internship when I was feeling a little lost.
I was really very busy over the whole experience. Having spoken to other interns who didn鈥檛 have enough to do over the experience, I think being a little too busy gives a much better experience. However, I did work longer than 9:00-5:30 most days and quite long hours a couple of times over the whole experience.
Not a great deal, but then again, as an intern I鈥檓 not sure it would have been appropriate for me to be given a great deal of responsibility. I had responsibility for doing the work I was given independently and the best of my ability and that was probably enough responsibility for the 6 weeks.
In reality the training I received probably won鈥檛 affect my degree study at all, as the subject I study is really very different. The training will, I am sure, come in useful if I chose to pursue this area as a career in the future. The skills I developed, particularly in interacting and cooperating in a work environment will help me in a much wider sense in my life, both in my study and beyond my degree study.
The Company
The atmosphere was really good. Being in a reasonably small team that was entirely office based meant that everyone knew each other really well and I felt really welcomed from an early stage of the internship. Everyone was very friendly around the office and this was built on by weekly pub lunches and other team social activities.
The whole experience was very well organised and I felt well guided through the entire process. My only criticisms would be that, as much fun as it was, the induction week felt like it dragged on a bit and that different interns had very different experiences dependent on the type of work that they happened to receive.
I felt that the firm鈥檚 investment was very great indeed. The induction week was really helpful and was a really good opportunity, both for learning and for widening my network. Ongoing training throughout the internship was also vital in development of my skills, many of which were important over the 6 weeks.

Future employment opportunities within PwC are very appealing. The quality of the experience as a whole would make it very difficult for me to say no future employment were I to receive a graduate job offer. Were I not to receive such an offer however, I still feel that the experiences I have gained here would stand me in good stead to enter the job market upon leaving university.
The Culture
I didn't feel that the social scene was particularly strong amongst the interns, however I think his was because a majority were faced with quite a commute to get home at the end of a long day or week. For me, the social scene amongst people in my office was much stronger. We went for a pub lunch every Friday and went out in the evenings every now and again which was great fun.
For me the cost was very low but that was because I was able to live at home and to walk into work which made living and travel costs mothing at all. Costs for eating, drinking and going out in Birmingham were also very reasonable in comparison with where I go to university.
I didn't have too much of an opportunity to sample the nightlife over the course of the internship, but I can say, having grown up in Birmingham, that the nightlife is excellent and you would be hard pressed to have such a cost effective good time anywhere else in the country.
Yes, I felt there were plenty. Personally, every week I played 5 a side football (despite being totally rubbish) which was a really friendly and relaxed way to wind down after a day of work and to get some exercise. There were also a couple of wider PwC socials which were good fun to attend.
