About You
I attended the 2016 Accounting Talent Academy which focused on Tax and Assurance. I thoroughly enjoyed the experienced I was immersed in an environment, unparalleled by any other insight I'd had with PwC. The extensive networking opportunities and information sessions about the aspects of PwC mentioned above, I feel put me in good stead for my preparation for summer internship applications. It gave me a unique insight into the firm and was able to work with like minded 西瓜视频s who I have remained in contact with since.
PwC went above and beyond to make each 西瓜视频 feel valued. We had a dinner where Senior Partners attended which was amazing being able to sit next to partners and hear about each individuals experiences with PwC. It was great to network in a less formal environment and really get to know the partners, beyond just their job title. The insight was well planned and participation was widely encouraged in all of the activities. The various ice breakers helped us to get to know the fellow 西瓜视频s and also to boost our group confidence, which greatly benefitted us when networking.
An aspect I liked about the insight was the activity sessions. We were taught about internal, external audit and tax more in detail. We were often given scenarios and some background information to show us a similar role that we might be playing in a role such as these in PwC. At times we had to show a willingness to ask questions to find out more about the job that we had to do, and I feel that although we were often given less guidance, it was to show us more accurately what carrying out this role at PwC may be like.
The insight was especially informative. The ICAEW information session was particularly useful as I realised how I could pursue with my ACA training alongside my Accounting and Finance degree studies. I believe that the insight helped me to gain more clarity about my future career prospects and also encouraged me to consider other career paths other than those that I had previously set out.
The Company
The insight was well planned, the sessions weren't too long and we had regular rest breaks. I enjoyed having the evening after dinner to chat more with and get to know my fellow 西瓜视频s and have built strong relationships that I will take with me into my future career, hopefully at PwC. I believe that the insight was the right balance of networking and information. We weren't overwhelmed with either, which I enjoyed.
The general atmosphere of the insight was encouraging. The groups were regularly mixed around so we had the opportunity to meet lots of the other 西瓜视频s. All of the staff and PwC representatives were so friendly and truly showed the firm in the best light. The time and money that PwC invested in us over the insight made me feel especially valued by the firm and furthered my internet in pursuing a career with PwC in the future.
As it was more of an insight than an internship there wasn't particular training as such. However, I definitely feel that I developed my networking skills and gained a greater appreciation for Tax and Assurance at PwC especially. There were special skills focused sessions also about the PwC professional, which helped us to gain an insight about how to be a successful applicant to future PwC programmes.
I feel that the balance of partner exposure and more formal communication definitely helped me to gain a better insight about the firm. There were specialists there who were able to tell us all about their own opportunities, and I feel confident that I will be able to make an informed decision in the future when I apply to PwC about the region and division that will be best suited to me.
I feel that the partners and staff gave a truly deep insight into the firms culture. There was a clear message that the people are what makes working at PwC so great. This was strongly amplified by the wonderful employees that we met at the insight.
As I was unsure what part of professional services I was most interested, the insight definitely helped me to gain clarity and to understand which division would be best suited to me in the future. The information we were given, the activity sessions and the staff that we met that worked in each of the decisions helped me to explore my options further and to make a more informed decision about my future.
Everything Else
Although the insight was not paid, PwC reimbursed our travel expenses and we were very well accommodated at the insight.
At every point of the insight we were constantly meeting new employees and learning more about their experiences. The most valuable part was definitely the partners dinner as we were able to chat informally with senior partners in the firm who were able to give us their insight into the company and also was a great chance for us to make those connections that will no doubt become extremely valuable to us in the future.
The dinner was the highlight as well as the drinks after. I believe that the setting of the insight helped to facilitate great networking, along with the willingness of the partners and directors to give us their time to listen and to answer our questions.
It was refreshing to know that employees were encouraged to carry on pursuing their interests outside of work. The encouragement to volunteer and the evident perfect work life balance that PwC employees enjoy was yet another great incentive for me to stay interested in the firm. It was nice to also see a mix of different activities that the employees worked in.
I would definitely recommend this insight. Not only will it help you to gain clarity when applying for summer internships, it will also provide you with a good base network for future endeavours, whether than be like minded 西瓜视频s or employees of PwC. I believe that this is the perfect way to gain unparalleled exposure to the firm that you can not scarify by simply looking at the website. It is the best, proactive step in the right direction to kick start your career and to invest in yourself.
