About You
The interactive taster activities in assurance and tax were really interesting, not too difficult and relevant, none of the activities seemed to go on for too long. The talks on other areas were detailed and relevant again. Overall it was enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it.
We were all treated really well over the two days with allowances made for travel time. Everything we could possibly have needed was provided. It was easy to talk to all the staff and they helped and supported us as much as we needed and took the time to speak to us individually about our degrees etc.
I received as much guidance as I needed, it was so easy to ask for help and nobody felt guilty for asking what could have been a simple question or had already been answered. The staff wanted us to understand everything as well as we possibly could and were really friendly when explaining anything.
The information I received helped me to understand the business more and also what happens within it. It will help me to make a more informed choice about my future career and made me aware of opportunities within the company I wasn't previously aware of.
The Company
The programme was very well structured and we were given a copy of the programme at the start of the two days. Timings were stuck to which made it very easy to follow what was going on and understand what would be happening next, we were never left wondering what was happening or where we were supposed to be.
The overall atmosphere was very good, the activities were not too long or too short and everyone seemed to be on the same page about activities. The programme included regular breaks with time to talk amongst ourselves and refreshments which made the overall experience more enjoyable and more informal.
We were given a presentation, followed by a discussion with current employees, about what the company is looking for in an interview for an internship for example. This included hints and tips about what makes a good interview and we had the opportunity to suggest examples from our own lives which could be used in interviews.
We were given the opportunity to talk both formally and informally with current employees in order to understand what a full time role would be like. We were also given a presentation about life at the company and the pathways available for career progression.
We had the opportunity to speak to different employees at different points throughout the two days, all of whom had the same thing to say about the company in terms of a place to work, what they valued the most and why. It was interesting to hear a similar response from so many different people in different areas of work at different offices.
We had taster activities in which we had the opportunity to do mock audits and experience tax at the company too. Although these were highly simplified it was useful to understand exactly what goes on in each department and it will be easier to make a decision about which department to apply to.
Everything Else
I paid for train tickets and was then reimbursed. The expenses form was provided on day one and is relatively simple to fill out.
We had plenty of opportunities to speak to directors, including over dinner. Employees were present at pretty much every activity, we were very much encouraged to speak to them and network. Although this initially seemed like quite a daunting process the informal settings made this easier.
We had very limited free time as much of it was taken up by networking. At first this was quite intimidating but this was helped by the relaxed setting and friendliness of everyone there. Most people spent the free time after dinner together, this had no fixed end time.
We were given a presentation about life at the firm which included activities inside and outside of work. I was shocked by the incredibly wide variety of activities available (and positively encouraged) outside of work. Everybody there spoke very positively about this.
I would definitely recommend the insight to anyone who is considering a career in assurance or tax. It really helped me to understand exactly what is involved and this was done in an enjoyable manner. We were treated really well throughout the experience and it was very much enjoyable.
