    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the Talent Academy (insight programme) hugely. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet PwC staff at all levels, and to improve my professional skills. I developed communication skills, presentational skills, team-working skills and time-management skills, and I have definitely come out of the Academy a more developed person. The programme was also a great way to gain insight into strategy consulting, and I enjoyed it so much that I'm clear I now want to move into strategy consulting (hopefully at PwC) in the future. It was quite an intense experience, but I gained so much out of it while having a great time.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was in a small group of six, headed up by two consultants. The amount of interaction I had with the consultants was fantastic, and I felt as though they really had put a lot of effort into the construction of the programme. The overall programme made me feel just as valued, too. From the dinner with partners and directors to the initial 'icebreaker' session, I felt like the firm wanted us to get the most out of this experience.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a great deal of support during the Academy. Both in terms of learning about the lines of business we were in, and in terms of learning about optimising our performance in professional interview situations, the PwC Talent Academy gave us plenty of support. As I was in the strategy line of the business, I particularly found useful - and enjoyed - our practice on case studies.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Well, the work I do at university tends to be quite solitary whereas people at PwC work together a lot, so I'm not sure all the team-work skills I developed will be of greatest use to me at university, but beyond university, I have no doubt that they will be incredibly useful. Alongside team-work skills, I had the opportunity to develop my communication and time-management skills. These will, of course, be very useful for the rest of my life.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was very structured, and it was very well structured, too. It was certainly fast-paced, but that contributed to the energetic atmosphere of the whole event, which was something I enjoyed the most about it. There was ample time time to socialise as well: at the very start of the event, we had the chance to chat with each other for about an hour, and then we also had a very leisurely dinner where we chatted for as long as we wanted. The work-related activity sessions were extremely well structure, and it was clear a lot of preparation had been done in advance to make the event go smoothly.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • On the train up to the event, I was thinking about what my ideal programme would have been like. This Talent Academy filled all those boxes. It was energetic, full of fantastically funny and clever people who I learned huge amounts from, intense, insightful, and hugely enjoyable. In short, the atmosphere was excellent. That wasn't hurt by the fact that every single member of PwC staff was incredible friendly, funny, helpful, and down-to-earth.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a dedicated session on the attributes PwC look for in a potential employee - that was certainly useful. And, of course, all of the other training opportunities like the strategy consulting work and the debate meant we developed the skills I mentioned earlier, which are important for prospective PwC employees, and for graduates everywhere. On top of their HR staff, PwC had brought up numerous employees in other 'client-facing' parts of the business. Considering the opportunity cost of taking a mid-level member of staff away from their work for a couple of days, it's quite clear that PwC were serious about developing the participants in the Talent Academy.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I don't think they could have done more than they did, save for having each one of us shadow a full-time member of staff, which obviously would not have been viable. Of course there's no substitute for experience, but given the kind of work we did (especially in the strategy line of the business, where I was placed) and the people we got the opportunity to talk with at length, I think we all got a fair insight into what a full time role would be like.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Quite a bit, I think. Hard-working but down-to-earth would probably be my best description of the culture at PwC. We were given all sorts of literature on what the culture at PwC is like, but I think the most insight I gained was directly from interacting with PwC people. PwC is one of the most iconic professional services companies out there, and it's no surprise that the people who work there, then, are both very industrious and very clever. That was the feeling I got from the Academy. But I didn't detect any self-satisfaction at all amongst anyone I met from PwC, despite working at such a great firm. They were all extremely nice, normal people. If that's representative of the culture at PwC as a whole, then that's fantastic.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Extremely valuable. Before I arrived, strategy consulting was a possible career path for me, but it was a possibility amongst others. Now, I'm pretty much sold on strategy consulting as a career. The intellectual challenge involved and the opportunities to learn about business across a cross-section of industries (as people seem to generalise at the start of their career) is extremely alluring for me.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were put up in a very smart country club and hotel! Food was delicious and all provided, as well as coffee on-tap. There was a very nice dinner at the end of the first day. All accommodation was paid for, as were the meals. All travel was reimbursed up to 拢100 and there was free travel provided between the train station and the hotel. Plus, we were all given goody bags with hoodies, water bottles, sweets, and stationery. PwC definitely know how to win over 西瓜视频s!

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes. At the end of the first day, there was a large dinner where we networked with people from our line of business. For example, at my strategy consulting table, there were the two employees we had worked with that day, and a partner in the strategy business came up as well. They were all great to talk to, and we all enjoyed the dinner greatly. Prior to the dinner, there was also a drinks reception, where we were able to meet many other employees at PwC.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As above - very good.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • It came up in conversation at dinner, and it seems like there's plenty for people to do outside of work, but it wasn't explicitly covered in detail.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely.
