About You
I thought that the insight scheme was a fantastic experience that really helped me in thinking about whether or not I would like to pursue a career at PWC. The sessions were very interesting and well-run, meanwhile the partners and directors were very welcoming at the dinner in the evening. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the insight.
The insight scheme was not necessarily about us contributing to the firm but more about understanding more about PWC and the kind of work that it does. Therefore we were not providing value but the people running the sessions were still very good at making us feel as though we could really establish promising careers at PWC.
I worked particularly in the strategy& sector, where are mentors were very helpful. We worked to produce evaluations of a company in its particular market; we were given a book of data and information about the company and then looked to extrapolate from this file and conclude on whether or not to invest in the company. The mentors were very helpful both during the process and in their assessments of our presentations.
I would not necessarily say that I learned any particular skills from the scheme. However some of the tips and guidance that I received, particularly referring to interview techniques and how to present oneself in group assessments were very helpful, although they may not help me in my degree studies the experience will be very useful moving forward in applying for graduate schemes.
The Company
The structure of the insight was very good, all the sessions flowed seamlessly into one another. It was very full-on with little time to relax but because it was only 2 days that was ok. I would say that the organisation was very good, it was really nice to have our hotel and meals all sorted for us as it meant we could just focus on the sessions and having a really good time.
There was a really good vibe throughout the whole weekend, it was really nice to be in an environment where no one was mucking around and everyone was there to work hard and do well. Having said that people were still incredibly friendly and good fun, at the dinner in the evening there was a really happy atmosphere and no expense was spared with the food or drink!
This was probably the most important aspect of the insight, it gave a really good representation of what it might be like to have a career with PWC. The sessions were all focussed on the kind of work that a graduate would do at PWC, for me that was why I applied for it in the first place. One was able to talk to a large number of employees about life at PWC and the career possiblities.
There were a number of very interesting presentations that referred to the kind of culture that PWC aims to install across its organisation and employees. Obviously it is often difficult to tell how true it may have been as the concept of 'company culture' is often revolves around similar issues from company to company, however they were still interesting presentations that painted a positive image of PWC.
The content was very useful and really encouraged me to pursue a career in both consulting and potentially at PWC. They sold the company to us really well, the employees were all really positive and welcoming and the whole experience was about convincing you to come to PWC, a welcome change from the norm where the applicant is convincing the firm to hire them.
Everything Else
The networking opportunities were really positive, firstly in how we were encouraged to network with the other people on the insight. I met some really good people who I am still in touch with today, it was good because they didn't force you to make friends but simply gave you the opportunity. We also had the opportunity to network with partners and directors at the dinner in the evening: they were also very welcoming.
