The Role
The placement was rotational which meant I got moved around a lot. Depending on what you're looking for this can either be good or bad. I got moved around Tax, Audit and Consulting, but was mainly in audit. It allowed me make an informed decision as to what part of the firm I wanted to start my career in. The placement gave little to no access to the Deals side of the business.
I felt valued in the 2 aspects - the addition of my personality to the team and the standard of the work i produced. I always felt very welcomed in all the teams i worked i worked in across all the different lines of service, the firm tends to have that inclusive feel which is really embedded in is people. my work was always commended and even when it wasn't 10/10, i was always shown ways to improve as opposed to reprimanded.
I was largely given a lot of support by my supervisors. Everytime I did a rotation into a new business area, i was sure to make it clear that I hadn't had any prior experience in thatr area and was always given the necessary support neeeded to perform the tasks I was allocated. As the firm is so big, not all staff will be aware of your background or even your scheme so it was always important to make this clear.
Because the nature of the programme required me to be moved around, I tended to be moved around according to business need. This meant I was always moved onto teams that had a high workload and needed the extra capacity. So on average I was kept quite busy. Especially during the audit busy season which is notoriously the busiest season of the financial year (jan to march)
I was given quite a lot of responsibilty. It being a rotational programme, and it requiring moving around the firm a lot, new teams aren't always aware of your lack of experience in your new business area. I was often faced with the responsibility of meeting tight deadlines for work I wasn't really experienced enough to complete in that amount of time. However, it really helped my learning.
As it was a graduate programme, I had already completed my degree studies. However the training receieved really helped with the ICAEW ACA qualifications that we took. During thr year, we sat 5 ACA exams - Accounting, Assurance, Principes of Tax, Business and Finance and Law. The knowledge gained through the tutoring we recieved for these exams really assisted me on the job and will no doubt help me throughout my career.
The Company
During busy periods of the year, and especially when based at client sites, the atmosphere could be quite dull. however during periods of more regular wokring hours and especially hwen based at the office, the atmosphere tends to be quite lively. There is a good balance of work and play, and senior management definitely set a good tone for interacting with others around the office.
It was the first year the placement was run - not great I'm afraid. But I'm still at the firm and can see things have largely improved this year.
I would say the firm invested in me quite heavily. especially consideringt the fact that i was only on a 10 month placement. All my ICAEW ACA exams as well as all the training was all sponsored by the firm. I was also given additional time off to study for the exams. Alhough i passed all the exams first time, the firm also offered me the option to have a second go (paid by the firm) in the event I didn't pass first time.

Very appealing as there is a clear line of progression which allows me to project, on average, where I'm likely to be 5 years down the line. There are also salary bands for all the different grades up to director that can be viewed by everyone in the firm, so you can also predict how much you're likely to be earning in the years to come. The prospects of financial bonuses and increased benefits as I progress is also very appealing.
The Culture
I barely saw my fellow placement 西瓜视频s as we were always on different rotations - which wasn't good.
Quite high as the office was based in one of the most expensive areas in London - London Bridge.
Based out in London bridge, quite a good social scene with the shard just in walking distance. Great restaurants and bars in easy reach. The work teams tend to organise socials quite a bit as there's always a lot going on around us - which can be a good way to get to know people around the office and also to get a good work/life balance. All work and no play....! All in all you won't be lost for things to do in London Bridge.
There weren't really too many I'm afraid.
