About You
Very insight coming from a non-finance background, studying English Literature at university and humanities subjects at A-level. Felt very included in team meetings and my work shadow leader went out of her way to introduce me to people new to the company as well as senior partners, giving me a comprehensive overview of the company culture.
I felt very valued and was even given the opportunity to complete small tasks from databases, which gave me the chance to look at the metrics used and to understand the importance and meaning of their systems. I also managed to speak to a wider variety of people doing my insight by working with different groups. It was particularly interesting to sit in on progress meetings with internal teams and also with the client, giving a sense of the variety of jobs and responsibilities an employee has.
I was thoroughly supported and given great introductions, and towards the end of my insight was given more freedom to work with different teams and network independently, which boosted my confidence and gave me new insights form people at all levels of the company. I also had the opportunity to have lunch with different members of the team during the insight and each told me their personal journey and gave me guidance for next steps.
The information and skills I developed made me realise the possibility of entering the world of audit without a finance-related degree, giving me greater confidence as I enter my last year of study. It also helped to cement my decision to enter accountancy, and gave me great contacts to speak to about opportunities and applying.
The Company
The insight was by necessity rather loosely structured as it depended on the timetable of who i work shadowed, and whether I would have a passive or active role. I was fortunate to shadow a senior manager who was keen to give me as much exposure as possible to the firm during my time there, so she structured my week so I had the opportunity to sit in on meetings, visit a client, attend training sessions, progress meetings, and initial reviews.
The general atmosphere was much more inviting then anticipated, and just as stimulating as i had hoped. Everyone was very friendly and keen to hear about my decision to take part in an insight at the company, and gave me guidance and support. There was also a greta social atmosphere and on the final day I came along to a social event celebrating the end of a project, and it was fascinating to see how everyone interacted outside of the office, making me feel confident of the great friendships with can be grown in the firm.
It was a short insight, though I did have a meet up with someone from 西瓜视频 recruitment, who I had met on the first day, halfway through the program to talk about how I was enjoying my time. The insight also led on to further opportunities so I felt the insight was valued as an investment in me as they wanted me to have the best chance of success in their recruitment processes later. The connections I gained during the insight was also valuable as I can take their advice on into my future.
I gained a real insight into the variety of roles one has in the company, even in ways I had never considered before. I also felt a sense of the working environment in the firm, seeing how everyone interacted in meetings and more social occasions. Hearing about the types of work those who had just started with the firm were working on also gave me an understanding of the level I might be working at if I entered in a full-time capacity.
I learnt a lot about the company culture through my insight, as I sat in on meetings about internal and external projects, and had networking lunches. My work shadower also had a meeting with her new-comer whom she mentors, and it was great to see that these relationships are maintained and provided a real support network.
The content of the programme was very valuable to my decision to enter the world of audit as the work I saw and took part in really excited me, and those around helped everyone which was encouraging. I felt very supported and valued during my time, giving a sense of the great work environment at the firm. Speaking with so many different people also meant I had all the questions I had wondered at answered and more.
Everything Else
I was paid for my insight week.
Many opportunities over lunch, drinks, social at end of week, and during the working day such as before meetings.
They were friendly and despite being only person not an employee they valued my input and questions.
Yes, and I even sat in on a social event planning meeting.
I would certainly recommend this insight,
