The Role
My work was very varied, I enjoyed that aspect since it allowed me to gain experience in different facets of my chosen discipline. The work was never particularly challenging but there was a lot of it and I was faced with bottle necks which made work difficult.
By and large I felt very valued by my team and also those who were sat around me.
I received a lot of support at the beginning of my internship but this did not always translate into the rest of my tenure. There were often times when my line manager and supervisor were both away for a week or two and so I had limited support or guidance.
I was very busy since day one of the internship. More so than expected, although we were warned about this during the induction. There were times when I felt bored however due to bottle necks. Some consistency was lacking.
BP excels at this! I was given fantastic opportunities to coordinate meetings internationally via video conferencing for example. I felt as if people were relying on the quality of my work and as if it were of real value to the business. I was given the responsibility to reach out to who ever I'd like to in the business to socialise my work. Really positive. Only downside would be restricted system access.
I believe my acquired technical skills as well as time management and experience of working for a large multinational will stand me in good stead both at university and of course, future employment (whatever the size of the company). I feel as if training programmes could have been more specific but overall I feel as if I have developed professionally.
The Company
Unfortunately, I was seated in a quiet part of the office and due to alternating work - there was often a lot of the office missing at any one time. Despite that, I had a great time because the people who were around me had fun, strong personalities and jokes, football banter, etc were cracked daily!
This is a developmental area in my experience. The initial briefs were detailed enough but as my projects developed, I found that there was less and less in the way of organisation and it became a but of a free fall by the end.
This is difficult to answer but I'd say I received little personal training - they invested financially in the form of covering expenses or funding ventures however.

I have personally decided against a career in this field so probably not appropriate to answer. Oil and gas is what it is as well as a cyclical industry so that's something to also bear in mind.
The Culture
The other interns were a great lot and regularly organised outings, parties, etc. Geographic proximity is a factor though since people do tend to all live in different areas given the nature of the office location.
Naturally being in London is never cheap...couple that with the fact that I lived in Richmond and you definitely had to pick your nights out!
The office was in a business park quit out of the way so I didn't expect much anyway. The good thing is, London is really close.
Plenty of extracurriculars like a newsletter, additional projects, etc- you'll feel as if you're in upper school again! Regular sporting events and clubs also organised so there's usually something to enrich your calendar. Lunch and learns were great.
